The city continued to burn. In the distance, you could see a Talon Svyatogor mech knock down a skyscraper in an enormous explosion. New York was reaching breaking point; likely the president would be forced to give in to the ransom in the next hour. And there you stood, facing the man behind it all. Maximilien wore a confident smile, and from the look on his face, one would never know that there was a rifle aimed at his face.
"I had wondered who would be sent to attack me...who would break through my lines" he commented, idly spinning a coin between his fingers.
"Yeah, well I hope I don't disappoint" you remarked sarcastically, holding your pulse rifle closer to his head with a glare.
"You do not. Sombra not with you? I thought she never left your side...how curious" Maximilien stated, making your fist clench.
"Nah, I'm not doing that talk. We're not talking about me here, we're gonna talk about you. Tell me right now, what's the point of all this? Why murder so many innocents?" you questioned, taking a breath to keep your fury in check.
"Hm...you were never much of a businessman, were you? The man who controls the most powerful force on Earth is the most powerful man on Earth, also the wealthiest if he finds the right buyers. Imagine the number of groups who will want to hire the army which took Manhattan. Talon has dozens of hidden facilities around the world to store the omnics...and when I am done, the world will quiver at the mention of our name. The ultimate business..." the omnic replied smugly.
You have a disgusted look. This was his plan? Invade New York as a show of power and then offer his services to any who meet his price. Death and destruction in exchange for a fat cheque. You didn't know about all omnics, but the one standing in front of you right now certainly didn't have a soul.
"So, you turn yourself into a mercenary? And rake in the blood money..." you commented spitefully, shaking your head.
"Akande was a visionary but his dream was flawed, unrealistic. Now I can seed his chaos whilst advancing my own goals. Y/N, the world is not a fair place. Justice is merely a concept invented by humanity to justify their own heinous crimes. All I do is take advantage of society's corruption and gain something from it...is that so wrong?" Maximilien stated, as if that was a defence for his horrific actions.
But you weren't going to allow him to talk his way out of this one.
"I don't care how you see this; I see it as murder. And I've always believed in an eye for an eye" you remarked with a glare, pressing your rifle against his forehead and reaching for the trigger.
"Interesting, with a bloodlust like that...you would have made an excellent Talon agent" the omnic commented, preventing you from pulling the trigger.
This man had killed thousands, and his death would save so many more. And yet, with a single sentence, he had completely destroyed your ability to kill him. How could you? He was unarmed...your prisoner essentially, if you pulled that trigger then you were destroying a piece of yourself. Your mercy...
Jack led the way through the darkened corridors of the building, checking every corner cautiously and scanning his surroundings for any sign of enemy movement. Olivia followed behind, using her equipment to scan the area for you. One of the new additions she had made for her hacking device was a sort of radar which highlighted injured individuals, even through walls. With all of your wounds, you would certainly show up, but since your silhouette was nowhere in sight, you had to be on a higher floor.
"Hurry it up, Strike Commander. Y/N's in danger, I can tell..." Olivia remarked, glancing from side to side.
"We won't do him any good if we get shot in the back before we get there" Jack replied gruffly, taking cover behind a wall before turning it dramatically.
