Escaping the Indian cyclone was more difficult than you had anticipated, and at one point your shuttle was hit by a lightning bolt, which had been a terrifying experience. Somehow being trapped in a ship with red lights all around you as it hurtled towards the ground was scarier than falling without the safety of a ship.

Fortunately, thanks to some quick-thinking and hurried rewiring from Sombra, you were able to regain control of the shuttle and fly away to safety. The storm had fried the onboard AI, leaving a strange silence over the journey as you returned to the Talon base you had come to call 'home'. You sensed a continuing theme with these shuttle rides; on the way to your mission there was usually a tense silence, and afterwards an awkward one.

Without the pressure of Talon constantly over her head, you wondered if Sombra might act differently. There were moments when she seemed genuinely happy, usually when she was with you and didn't have to think about a mission. When all of this was over, when Talon was gone and the two of you were free, you were looking forward to properly getting to know that side of her. Until that time, however, duty called...

The moment you landed down in the hangar of the Talon headquarters; you were immediately summoned to the office of Doomfist. Apparently, he had urgent business to conduct with you, which completely ruined your plan to drink yourself half to death at the bar. On the way to his office, instead of being met by icy stares from your fellow Talon soldiers, you were greeted with looks of what looked like awe. You got the distinct sense that they all knew something you didn't, because they were all definitely acting differently.

Arriving at the office, you glanced at Sombra before preparing to knock on the door. However, as you raised your hand to knock, the door opened anyway, revealing Doomfist sat at his desk. Maximilien stood in front of him, the two of them seemingly discussing something in private.

"-they are not ready...a handful of successful missions is no qualification" you heard Maximilien mutter.

"Are you questioning my judgement, Maximilien? Because that would be a poor choice" Akande questioned in response, causing the omnic to turn silent.

Without saying another word, Maximilien left the room, shoving roughly past you as he disappeared out of sight. Shaking your head slightly in confusion, you ignored what you had heard and prepared to deliver your mission report.

"Sir...Sanjay Korpal is dead, one clean shot through the head with an untraceable round. Both Sombra and I escaped unharmed, using the cover of the storm to mask our shuttle's exit. Also, we found this," you explained, placing the USB drive on Akande's desk, "in Korpal's suit jacket, just as you said we would".

Akande proceeded to pick the USB drive up, studying it closely in his hand before plugging it into the laptop in front of him. For several tense seconds, the Talon leader tapped on his keyboard, emotionlessly examining the data before him. You shared a worried look with Sombra, but she remained stony-faced, confident that you had done everything you could. And finally, after what had felt like an eternity, Akande looked up and stared right into your eyes.

"The analysis confirms it...this USB drive has not been copied; this is the final version of the sensitive data. Not only have you succeeded in retrieving this, news reports also confirm that Korpal no longer breathes. Y/N...I misjudged you...you do have the strength to do what is necessary. From this moment on, you are officially an agent-in-training for Talon. Congratulations" he stated, causing you to breathe a sigh of relief.

You took a deep breath, regaining your composure, before nodding gratefully.

"Thank you...that's quite an honour..." you replied, lying through your teeth.
