Standing in the large banquet hall, I frown at the table. "What is wrong?" Loki looks at my sad face.

I look down at my dish. "Someone else brought green bean casserole too."

He finally looks at the table I was looking at. "That is... A lot of food."

"It's a community Thanksgiving. That's not enough." I listen as more people pile into the large room.  I walk up to the table and set my casserole next to the other.

Mom walks up to me. She's been here since 10 AM setting up. She puts her hand on my back. "Remember, it's your turn to toast this year."

I nod. "I know."

"Nervous?"

"Nope." I'm fucking terrified.

She laughs. "Alright, sweetie. Well, there's wine if you need it." She walks off to finish setting up the tables.

"Why did you lie to your mother?"

I roll my eyes and turn to him. "Why do you have to read my thoughts?"

"My apologies." He stares at me and I roll my eyes again. "What is that?"

"What's what?"

He rolls his eyes. "That."

"It means I'm annoyed."

His face falls. "Oh."

I see his sad face and instantly feel bad. Oh, Jesus Christ. "Not at you," I rush. "At the... casserole. It really upset me."

"Do not lie to me, Dri. I know when you are."

I let out a sigh. "I'm sorry." I want to hug him. I just... shit. I reach my arms out, but someone screams. I tense up, scared. I turn around to see someone lying on the floor. I can't see his face because the group surrounding him is in the way. I recognize the black leather bracelet. I rush over, Loki following suit. "What happened?"

"He just fell of the ladder."

"Dad. Dad, can you hear me?" I put my hand under his head. "How high up was he?"

"He was barely even on it."

I look around, unable to see my mom. "Where's my mother?"

"She-She went outside to start greeting more guests."

I look back at Loki. "Loki, my phone!" I hold my hand out. "Someone go get my mom!" I feel the weight of the device in my hand. I gave it to Loki because I'm wearing a dress and didn't have pockets. I dial 911.

My hear my mother gasp. "CHARLES!" She runs over and sits next to me.

"911, what is the nature of your emergency?"

"Hi! We need an ambulance. My father, he's fainted." She asks for the address and I give it to her. Out of instinct from the brief emergency medical training dad gave me, I place my head against his chest and a finger against is neck to feel for any abnormal beats. I don't notice anything, but I can be wrong.

"Does your father have any ailments that could cause this?"

I turn to mom, fear written all over my face. "She asked if he is sick with anything."

"Parkinson's."

"Park-" I stop myself and give my mother a look. A look of hurt, betrayal. "Parkinson's." I didn't even realize I was crying until it was completely silent. Outside, I hear the sound of sirens. I stare blankly while the EMTs take care of him. Mom sees me, not talking or looking at anything. She walks up to me.
