I take my spot on the front lines. "What the hell?"
"Looks like we pissed her off."
Cap turns to me. "Dri, what are those things?"
"Outriders. I read about them in the Asgardian library."
"Do we stand a chance?"
"I... They're stronger than the Chitauri. Mindless."
There's a long silence. "Great."
I watch as they sacrifice themselves to tear down the barrier. "They're killing themselves," Okoye says, sounding worried.
I stand back while everyone fires on the beings. "You see the teeth on them things?" Sam asks on the comms.
I watch as Rhodey releases bombs on our side of the barrier. I notice some running around. "Cap, if these things circle the perimeter and get in behind us, there's nothing between them and Vision," Bruce points out.
"Then we better keep them in front of us."
"How do we do that?"
"We open the barrier. On my signal, open North-West Section 17... On my signal."
I clear my throat and prepare myself. "This will be the end of Wakanda."
"Then it will be the noblest ending in history."
I take a deep breath as everyone drops their shields. "WAKANDA FOREVER!" We all begin running at the barrier.
Suddenly, it opens. Keeping up with Cap and T'Challa, I jump into the river and fight the Outriders. I struggle in my fight. It's hard to kill something who's only want is to kill you, regardless if their own life is at stake or not. When I get a moment of rest, I see T'Challa struggling with two Outriders. I run and jump on the back of one, burying my daggers deep into the back of their shoulders. Using all of my weight, I pull the blades down, slicing open the alien. More attack me, causing me to become overwhelmed. Suddenly, there's a loud crash and something flies through the air. I'm saved in a burst of blue light. I rise to see Thor standing with a Groot and a... raccoon? "YOU GUYS ARE SO SCREWED NOW!" Bruce yells, laughing.
"THOR!" I run up to the man I consider my family.
He doesn't say anything. I smirk, knowing the angry look on his face. "BRING ME THANOS!" I run behind the three, the feeling of impending doom growing smaller. Fighting back to back with Thor brings me back to simpler times in training on Asgard.
"It's good to have you back, brother," I fondly say.
"Good to be back, sister."
Just then, Cap stops by us. "New haircut?"
"Noticed you copied my beard." I turn when the Groot stabs three Outriders. "By the way, this is a friend of mine, Tree."
"I AM GROOT!"
"I am Steve Rogers."
I smile softly. I've missing fighting alongside my friends. "Cap, your right!"
"Thanks," He says when he notices the same Outrider ready to attack. I continue fighting. I feel everyone's fear and anger all at once, but one sticks out the most. I begin prodding in Thor's mind. I find the exact moment, the source of his powerful anger.
"I, Loki, Prince of Asgard, Odinson," I see the scene through Thor's eyes. Loki looks directly into my/Thor's eyes, "The rightful King of Jotunheim, God of Mischief," I see Loki conjure his dagger, "Do hereby pledge to you my undying fidelity." As he goes to strike, Thanos stops him.
"'Undying'? You should chose your words more carefully." Thanos grabs Loki, lifting him off the ground.
Loki's struggling becomes weaker and weaker. "You... Will never be... a god." His body falls limp and I feel my heart drop.
I retract from Thor's memories when I hear a voice in my ear. "Everyone on my position. We have incoming."
I teleport to Cap. I feel the air still. It's too quiet. Suddenly, a cloud of blue appears. The person I saw kill the man I loved appears. Everyone's fear mixes with my anger. "Cap. That's him."
My eyes burn holes into the large, purple man. "Eyes up. Stay sharp."
We all begin attacking. I have it set in my mind that I'm going to kill this man. I block everything out when I attack. Teleporting around him, I find an open spot. But when I attack, he grabs my wrist and flings me into a tree. All of the wind is knocked out of me, but I get back up. I launch myself onto his back I did the Outrider, but I'm lifted into the air and my body is contorted, causing me to scream out in pain before I'm dropped back on the ground. I watch from the ground as Thanos rewinds time. I'm unable to move from the extreme pain coursing through my body. He rips the Mind Stone out of Vision's head and Vision goes grey and limp. Thor lands his axe in Thanos' chest. "I told you, you'd die for that." I manage to get on my feet.
"You should... You should... You should've gone for the head."
"NO!" There's a large, white blast. "What did you do?! What did you do?!" Thanos escapes. I walk up to Thor, Cap joining us.
"Where'd he go? Thor... Where'd he go?"
"Steve?"
Suddenly, I feel a wave of loss. It's pounding through my body. I let out a throat ripping scream as I fall to the ground, hands over my ears. In a matter of seconds, I feel people slip away. Voices rattle through my head, overlapping each other. I'm only able to pick out some I recognize.
"This is no place to die." T'Challa?
"Oh, no. Motherf-..." Fury?
"Adam? Adam, what's happening?" Mom?
"Stefan, where's Anthony?" Tiffany?
"I'm sorry." Peter?
Everything is still again. From my knees, I stare up at the sky. "What is this? What the hell is happening?" Rhodey asks.
"Oh, God..."
After a very long silence, I finally speak up. "He did it..."
"Did what exactly?" Rhodey asks.
"Unbiased balancing of the universe."
"What does that mean?" Nat asks.
"Half of every being in the universe, dead," Thor answers for me.
"They're gone..."
(I'm so sorry for the shorter chapter and I'm sorry you all had to live through that again. Infinity War is so short in the book because I hard time deciding where I wanted Dri to be when everything went down. I figured having her away from the people she has the strongest links to, Thor and Tony, and not being able to reach would keep the story from being too cliche and keep her from being the type of character that's exactly where she needs to be to be convenient to the plot. I'm gonna explain something within the story that I didn't explain, the voices. She heard everyone's last words because of every death being so sudden and instantaneous, the mental links were overpowered. Think of it like a flare of power before a circuit blows. Or of how a light bulb gets intensely brighter before it blows.)
