"Cmon babe it will only take a second!" Steve groaned from the doorway.
"Uhhhggg." You moaned as you stood up from your spot on the couch. "Alright."
He grinned a little too wide as he led you outside to the Curtis' driveway.
"Ta da!" He announced. He motioned toward the car like you hadn't seen it 3,000 times. It was a blue pick up truck. And it looked the same as it always had.
"So what ya do to it?" You asked him.
" I gave it a new engine!" He said like it was the most obvious thing in the world. You made some sound like you agreed and stood in the driveway with your hands on your hips like a suburban dad admiring his freshly cut grass. You know what I mean
You'd admit- you were a bit spaced out and didn't even notice Steve getting into the car. You also didn't notice a thing when he fired up the new engine and started to back out. Apparently he didn't notice anything either, because the next thing you knew, you were flat on the drive way and heard a car door slamming.
"OH GOD BABE ARE YOU OKAY?" Steve said in destress as he kneeled beside you. You mentally check yourself over.
"Yeah Stevie, I'm alright." You giggled. "I didn't even see you pull out."
"I didn't even see you standing behind me!" He grinned a little- then stopped himself worrying that it wasn't supposed to be funny.
" It's alright Steve, you can laugh!" You said. He chuckled a little. Then a little more. Then you started laughing. And soon you were both full on crying on the Curtis' driveway.
Darry's red truck pulled up a few minutes later. He took one look at you both in the driveway- then just put it in reverse and backed tf out. Who knows where he went..Poor Darry
