15th September- Jae's surprise Birthday Party
"I mean I'm all for surprises and stuff, but you know Brian, leading me into my own house with my eyes covered on my birthday is making it kind of obvious," I heard his laugh from behind me and rolled my eyes under his hands.
I waved my arms in front of me, almost laughing when Brian make a strange gargle and pushed my arms to one side, complaining about how me breaking something would suddenly be his fault.
Finally, we stopped. I knew my way around my house well enough to know that I was standing in the middle of the living room floor. Cliché.
Brian uncovered my eyes but the room was still dark, despite it only being about 3 in the afternoon. The curtains had been hastily drawn shut and all the lights were off in the surrounding rooms. I looked around, trying to make out a figure in the darkness when suddenly, every light flicked on.
"Surprise!!" A loud chorus erupted from all over the room and people appeared from nowhere, ranging from people I hadn't seen in years to people I'd met only a few days ago. Brian came back up to me and wrapped an arm around my shoulder and spoke lowly in my ear.
"Do you want us to be here at midnight?"
I thought for a while. If they were here, there was a sizeable chance that I'd end up with no soulmate, although it was becoming more and more common as generations developed.
I wouldn't want them to get hyped up and it end up as nothing or as something disappointing.
"Can I be alone?" Brian instantly nodded and yelled to the group.
"Guys! Out of here by 11, Birthday boy wants to be alone tonight, 'Kay?"
A series of whoops yelped out in reply and I smiled. God, I love my friends.
As soon as Brian walked off I felt someone barrel into my side, my face was covered with long, dark hair and the scent of expensive perfume invaded my senses.
Hyejin grinned up at me, "Happy birthday Jae!" She yelled excitedly. I nearly asked how she ended up here, but knowing my friends (especially Chan) they had sought her out and invited her. I was glad. it was nice to see her when we hadn't spoken in ages.
Speaking of which, the next group of people to join me made my jaw slack and a grin break out onto my face.
The group of five that walked up to me were my closest friends throughout high school.
Sammy, Jamie, Amber, Sorn and Byron enveloped me in a bone crushing hug. I happily returned it with just as much vigour. It had been years since I'd seen these guys and throughout the time we spent catching up my mind was ablaze with happy memories and funny inside jokes.
Jamie had been demandingly humiliating me when suddenly, Brian walked back up. Great.
"A-and remember that time that Jae-""What did Jae do?" I gave a deadly glare to Jamie, praying desperately that she'd shut up.
But oh how she loves to torture me.
So, she tells the story through a fit of giggles.
"In year 7, Jae had a huge crush on this boy in year 9," I pleaded with her to stop talking RIGHT NOW but alas, she never listened, "He was so tiny back then and cute, and we dared him to go talk to him. I think his name was Jinbae- I can't really remember- but Jae got right up in front of him and then a pigeon flew by and crapped on him." She carried on laughing. I don't want to admit it but I cracked a smile too.
Brian chuckled and ruffled my hair, "Well if anything, I'm glad that that happened, otherwise we might not be here right now and I might not even have a chance with you."
