"God look at her hair, who let her walk out the house like that?" I heard someone say behind me minutes after I sat down. "It's so nappy do she even comb her hair" the two girls laughed as I frowned as I got my pen and paper out. "She needs a perm"
"Or she could just cut it off...it'll do her some justice" I squeezed my eyes shut, I recently took my hair out of my braids and I decided to let my hair breath, if I would have known that it would be such a problem I would have did my hair into a different style.
I never liked my curls, and I never wear it out in public. My hair has always been flat iron or in braids. I was trying to avoid this, I was trying to avoid getting weird looks, and getting judge, I was trying to avoid feeling bad for something I can't change.
"Her hair is just so inappropriate how do she expect people to take her seriously with that birds nest" I turned around to the girls who immediately stopped laughing, "how do you expect people to take you seriously with such snobby personalities?" I heard someone say I looked up to see Professor Jauregui.
"What?" One of the girls ask "I will not tolerate such ignorance and racism in my class, what y/n do with her is her business...we do not bring down other woman because of how they look, I am very disappointed in you two" I give Professor Jauregui a smile as she walks away.
"Today class we are going to work independently today....take out your MacBook's and get your fingers ready because I want you guys to write me a 5,000 word essay on your culture and for Madison and Grace 10,000"
"What?! That's not fair!" Madison yells "you should know by now that I don't do fair...It can be anything about your culture I just want to read about you all and your traditions and knowledge...tomorrow you'll all present so make it good"
_____
The class ended and I was the last one in the class as usual, I looked over at Professor Jauregui who was looking down at her laptop, I walked over to her desk "Professor Jauregui" She looks up at me and smiles "y/n hi what do you need?"
"You didn't have to stand up for me earlier I could have done it myself...I know it's your job and all but I got this" the green eye woman nodded "you do know you're such s beautiful girl right" I didn't say anything "and your curls are just as beautiful...you shouldn't be letting them talk about something that makes you, you....I will not tolerate bullying, harassment, or any racism in this class. And I already sent an Email to the board to get them removed from my class" my eyes widen "Professor Jauregui you didn't have to do that!"
"I did it because they were being racist and I don't want racism in my class ok?" I nodded "I have to go" She nods "have a nice day y/n" I nodded before walking out"
____
The next day I was the first one in class like always, Professor Jauregui had her back turned to me. I sat down pushing my hair behind my ear. I took everything out that I needed even tho I dreaded coming to class today because I had to present. When I looked up I saw Professor staring at me. "You flat iron your hair"
"Uh yeah" she frowns "I hope you're not changing yourself because of what happened yesterday...you know I enjoy seeing all the difference styles you do with your hair, and I'd hate to see change one of your beautiful features because of the ignorance of two white girls who don't know shit about what they're talking about"
My eyes widen at her profanity but I didn't say anything, "M-My hair is one of my biggest insecurities I hate it so much" I say honestly she gives me a small smile "it's one of my favorite things about you" I blushed looking down. "Y/n embrace your beauty and your flaws...self love is going to take you long a way" I nodded "and keep this between me and you, but no one presenting but Madison and Grace.. can't wait to hear about their 'culture'" I chuckled knowing what she was referring too as she walks away......
