A/N:Jin is 22 and Jk is 10
Kim Seokjin was locking up for the night. He owned a small convenience store and it was closing time. After he had turned off all the light, closed all the windows and locked all the doors, he was about to start making his way down the sidewalk when he heard sniffling coming from somewhere. He looked around to see a figure crying on the bus bench in front of his store. He could easily tell that it was a kid.
"Hey kid, what's wrong?" He asked as he walked over and around to the front of the bench so he could see the kid's face. He bent down so he was at eye level with the kid.
"I-I w-was....a-a-abandoned" the kid stuttered out between sobs and Jin was shocked. What kind of a monster would leave a kid on a bus bench? He refused to believe that someone could do such a thing.
"Are you sure? What if your parents are just running late?" Jin asked and the kid shook his head.
"I-It's my m-mom a-and I k-kn-know she le-left me." The kid said as he began to sob loudly.
"That can't be true. What's her phone number? I'll give her a call. This is most likely some big misunderstanding." Jin said as he took out his phone.
The kid told Jin his mother's phone number and Jin called it. The automated voice said that it was out of service. He asked the kid if he knew any other number.
"U-uncle S-Si Hy-Hyuk's" the kid replied before telling Jin the phone number. Jin tried that as well and again, the automated voice said that that number was out of service.
This was bad.
"How about we go to the station, huh? The cops will help you, okay?" Jin said and the kid's eyes gleamed with hope. "Will they help me find my mom?" The kid asked and Jin smiled, "only one way to find out." He said before adding, "I'm Kim Seokjin, by the way. What's your name?"
"I'm Jeon Jungkook" the kid replied.
"Ok, Jungkook. Let's go to the station, hm?" Jin said as he stood up and held out his hand to Jungkook. Jungkook took it and held it tightly as they made their way to Jin's car.
Jin put Jungkook in the backseat and buckled him up before taking his suitcase to the trunk and putting it in. He then got into the driver's seat of the car and put on his seatbelt before starting the car and heading towards the police station.
For the duration of the car ride, the two of them talked about anything and everything. Jin even made Jungkook laugh a lot, which caused the younger to forget about the situation that he was in.
That was until they arrived at the station.
When they arrived at the station, Jin and Jungkook went inside. Jin explained everything that had happened and the police told Jin that they would take it from there.
Jin thanked them and told Jungkook goodbye. As he was about to leave, Jungkook ran up to him and wrapped his hand around his waist. "Hyung, please don't leave me. Please. I don't want to be alone. I don't want to be abandoned again." Jungkook cried as he tightened his arms around Jin's waist.
"The nice policemen will take care of you" Jin said and Jungkook shook his head. "No, please. I don't want to stay here. Please don't leave me, please."
Jin's heart stung for the crying boy clinging onto him so he decided to make sure that everything would be okay with the boy if he left. He turned to one of the cops and asked, "what will happen if you can't find his mother?"
"He'll be sent to an orphanage." The cop replied and Jin's eyes widened. He'd spent the first 12 years of his life in an orphanage and he hated every single second of it. He didn't wish that for the young boy.
Without giving it a second thought, he walked up to the cop— with Jungkook still clinging to his waist— and asked for a piece of paper and a pen. He wrote down his phone number on it and gave it to the cop. "If you don't find his mother please give me a call. I'll take him." Jin said and the cop nodded.
*Three days later*
Jin had gotten a call from the station saying that Jungkook's mother couldn't be found. Jin had to file for legal guardianship over Jungkook in order to be able to take Jungkook.
Jin went to court to file for legal guardianship over Jungkook which basically meant that if granted, he would have the role of a legal guardian over Jungkook. (A/N: legal guardianship is different from adoption. A legal guardian is someone who is legally responsible for the well being of a minor while an adoption is where a person legally becomes a parent to another person.)
It took a couple of weeks to go through all the legal procedures before Jin could be granted legal guardianship over Jungkook. During that time, Jungkook had to stay in an orphanage.

When Jin was finally granted legal guardianship over Jungkook, the first thing he did was pick Jungkook up from the orphanage and take him to his home.
"What do you think?" Jin asked Jungkook as he opened up the front door of his small but cozy one bedroom apartment to the younger.
"I love it hyung." Jungkook said as he and Jin walked into the place.
"Should I show you your room?" Jin asked and Jungkook nodded his head excitedly.
It used to be Jin's room but Jin traded his sofa for a sofa-bed so he could sleep in the living room and Jungkook could have his room since the apartment only had one bedroom.
Jungkook ran into the room and began jumping on the bed. "Thank you! Thank you! I love it!" Jungkook said before running back over to Jin and jumping on him, wrapping his arms around Jin's neck and his legs around Jin's waist.
"Thank you so much for taking me in, hyung. I promise I'll be the best person ever so you won't regret taking me in." Jungkook said and Jin smiled.
"Alright Kookie. How about you unpack your things while I go make us dinner, okay?" Jin asked and Jungkook nodded before asking, "Kookie?"
"Yes. It's a nickname, do you not like it?" Jin asked
"No, I love it." Jungkook said then thought for a moment before adding, "Jinnie hyung."
