Chuseok is a is a major harvest festival and a three-day holiday in both North and South Korea celebrated on the 15th day of the 8th month of the lunar calendar on the full moon.
This year, Chuseok fell on the 12-14 of September.
Jungkook had just turned 17 on the first of that month and Jin would turn 29 in a couple months from then.
It was currently September 11 and both Jin and Jungkook were getting ready to head to Gwacheon to go celebrate Chuseok with Jin's adoptive family, like they've done every year since Jin took Jungkook in.
"Do you have everything?" Jin asked as he and Jungkook were just about to leave their house.
"Yeah, let's go, hyung." Jungkook replied and they stepped out of the house, locking the door behind them.
"Hyung..." Jungkook called as Jin began to drive off.
Jin hummed in response, letting Jungkook know that he had his attention even though his eyes were still on the road.
"...do you think I'm attractive?" Jungkook hesitated a bit before asking. He had to know whether or not Jin saw him as his kid or could see him as a possible love interest in the future. It had been bothering him since his conversation with Jimin last month.
"Of course. Did someone say you aren't? Who are they? Let me know so I can wash out their eyes for them." Jin said and Jungkook sighed, the elder wasn't getting his point.
"That's not what I mean, hyung. Am I someone that you would date?" Jungkook asked his question a little more to the point this time.
"Why would I date you, I'm your legal guardian." Jin responded, confused as to why the younger was asking such a question.
Jungkook almost face palmed. Was his Jinnie hyung seriously this dense?
"You wouldn't be after next year because I'll be an adult then" Jungkook said matter-of-factly.
"It doesn't matter, I'll still always take care of you." Jin said and Jungkook groaned, leaning his head back in frustration.
The rest of the car ride was mostly filled with silence as Jin remained oblivious to what Jungkook meant and Jungkook remained frustrated at his hyung's obliviousness.
They arrived at the Kim's around evening time.
"Eomma!" Jin said as soon as the front door to the house was opened, revealing Mrs. Kim.
"My son! I've missed you" Mrs. Kim said as she gave Jin a hug.
"I've missed you, too" Jin replied, hugging her back.
"Where's appa?" Jin asked after he and his mother pulled away. "Living room" she replied and Jin sidestepped her to go into the living room.
"My baby!" Mrs. Kim said as she envelop Jungkook in a death grip.
"Eomma... I... can't... breathe!" Jungkook choked out as he struggled to get out of her tight hold.
"I've missed you so much!" Mrs. Kim said as she tightened her hold on Jungkook and the younger could have sworn that everything started getting darker.
Jungkook took a deep breath when Mrs. Kim finally let him go.
"Come in, my baby." Mrs. Kim said and Jungkook did as he was told.
They went into the house and Jungkook suffered another death grip of a hug, this time from Mr. Kim. It was the price he had to pay for being the "baby of the house."
"Where's Namjoonie?" Jin asked when they were all done with hugging and had all settled down on the couch.
"He'll be here tomorrow morning" his mother replied before excitedly adding, "he said he was bringing his boyfriend over!"
"I know, he told me. I can't wait to meet him." Jin replied with a smile on his face, happy that his brother had found love.
*The following day*
It was now the 12th of September, the first day of Chuseok. As everyone was making sure everything was ready, there was a knock on the door.
"I'll get it" Jungkook said, putting down the cabbage he was cutting up in the kitchen and headed for the front door.
The moment he opened the door, his eyes widened.
"Hi, minion" Namjoon said before giving Jungkook a hug. Jungkook didn't hug Namjoon back because he was still shocked.
He couldn't believe what he was seeing. The person that was standing next to Namjoon was none other than Jung Hoseok.
Jungkook was instantly hit with memories of the time he had lied to Hoseok about being Jin's kid and about Jin having a fiancée.
He started praying to all things holy that Hoseok wouldn't remember him.
