(Summer's POV)
Great. Shawn was coming again Friday, and this time he was staying from 4 to 10, because he was babysitting my brother and sister! When I got home from school I used the short amount of time I had to clean up the house and myself. It wasn't very much time. When he arrived, I just watched a show for a bit while they were doing their lesson. Then I had to start getting ready. Me, Isabel, Nicki, and Abby we're having a girls night out. We were going out to an early dinner first, and then going to the movies. I put makeup on, a dress and a jean jacket, and a pair of black boots, grabbed my bag, and ran out the door, shouting a quick "Bye, I'm leaving!" to Shawn and my siblings.
On the way to dinner (I met Isabel and we walked), I explained to Isabel what had happened.
"You mean Shawn's going to your house three times a week now, getting to know your family, and babysitting?!" Isabel looked at me in shock.
"Yes!" I groaned.
"This is great! Now you can spend more time together and get to know each other!" Isabel was bursting with excitement. I looked at her incredulously. "Right right. What I meant is, that's horrible!" She grinned. I slapped my palm to my forehead.
"You know, I shouldn't even try to tell you these things! You're so difficult!" We both laughed.
"Yeah, well, he'll still be there when you get back. Alone. And he doesn't have to leave until your parents get back." She winked at me.
"Oh god." I shook my head and smiled.
Dinner with my friends was really fun. We ate at a local pizza place. Then we walked over to the movie theater, bought popcorn and drinks, and picked our seats. The movie we watched was a rom-com. Me and my friends loved those, we could watch them all day. I choked on my popcorn once and we all laughed so hard that the people in front of us had to turn around and shush us. We didn't stop laughing though, or at least, not out loud. When the movie was over, we all walked home together, talking about the movie, or school, or other random things. It was honestly a great night. Then they dropped me off at my house and the nervousness started to move in to my stomach. I slowly opened the door. I could hear the TV playing in the other room. I silently took off my jacket and boots. Here comes the hard part. I tried to sneak past the living room to the stairs so that Shawn wouldn't see me, but of course with my luck, my first step landed on a squeaky floor board. He turned around from the TV and saw me.
"Oh, hi! You're back! How was it?"
"Really fun!" I answered. The magic of the night hadn't worn off yet. I decided I wasn't going to shy away. I had a whole hour. I was going to talk to Shawn tonight. "Hey is that Sixteen Candles?"
"Yeah, it was on and I had never seen it, so I decided to watch it. Wanna join? It just started."
"Could I? I love that movie!" I exclaimed.
"Yeah! Here," Shawn made room on the couch and offered me some of the blanket. I accepted both. For the second rom-com I watched that night, it was pretty good, especially since I was watching it with Shawn. Of course, I had already seen it, but I still laughed with him at the funny parts and explained things to him if he needed it. By the end of the movie, most of the awkwardness had gone from between us, and I almost felt like we had been friends for a long time. When my mom got home, which wasn't that long after the movie ended, we were just sitting and talking.
"Hey guys!" My she said and gave me a hug. "I hope the twins weren't too much trouble," She added looking at Shawn.
"No! Not at all! They're really great kids!" Shawn smiled at her and got up.
"I'm glad to hear that! Summer, could you go get that money I showed you earlier for Shawn?" I nodded and started walking out.
"I have to grab my guitar anyway so I'll just go with her," Shawn looked at me.
"Alright, well then, thank you so much for watching them tonight. We are really grateful and I'm sure Summer is too," my mom said and shook Shawn's hand.
"It was no problem, thank you for the opportunity," Shawn waved at my her and then we walked towards the front door. I took the money off the shelf and handed it to him once he had gotten his stuff.
"Hey, actually, if it's not too late, would you want to go grab a milkshake?" Shawn asked.
I didn't say anything for a moment, but then I realized that he was waiting for an answer. "Yeah, I would love too! Let me just go ask my mom," I ran back into the kitchen. "Hey, can I go get a milkshake with Shawn?"
"I guess so, just be back by 11! And have fun!" My mom said enthusiastically.
I shouted thank you but I don't know if she heard me, as I was already gone.
I gathered my excitement and said "I can go," cooly to Shawn.
"Great! Come on!" We got in his Jeep. If he had known how many times I had dreamed about this moment, he probably would have not let me in his Jeep in the first place. We drove to a small diner with a big neon sign out front that said "Millie's". We sat down in a booth and ordered two Oreo milkshakes.
What's going to happen next??!!
