(Shawn's POV)
"So, you come here often?" Summer asked, looking around. The inside was really retro, with old ads and pictures on the walls, fancy milkshake glasses, a low bar with spinning stools, and even a jukebox in the corner. It was honestly one of my favorite places in the world. It had an air of friendliness and home. I could tell by the look in her eyes that Summer liked it too.
"Yeah, when I need to think. I love it here."
"Would you mind if I stopped by once in a while?" She smiled.
"No, though I don't think many people know about this place. Which I guess could be a bad thing or a good thing."
"Why a good thing? Isn't it better if the diner gets more business?"
"Well, yeah, but it's also kind of nice to have a place that's yours. I know I shouldn't, but have you ever felt like that? Like you need to have something that other people don't?" I looked into her eyes.
"Yes, actually, I feel like that a lot. I'm glad I'm not the only one. But if that's the case, then why did you bring me here?" She looked questioningly back at me.
"Because I could tell that you would appreciate it the right way. You would understand." I nodded. I was sure now, Summer was a friend. I was kind of glad I took her here. She didn't respond, just nodded her head. Then Annie came over with our milkshakes. Annie was an older lady who had worked at Millie's since I could remember. She actually owned the place, her mom was the Millie.
"Here ya go," she put them down on the table. "I don't think I've ever seen you round here before. What's your name sweetie?" Millie looked at Summer kindly.
"Summer, and thank you for the milkshakes," Summer answered politely.
"Well, any friend of Shawn's is a friend of mine," she smiled, then turned to me, put her hand next to her mouth so Summer couldn't see and mouthed: "she's cute!" I blushed but I'm not sure why. I didn't have any sort of feelings for Summer, especially since I just broke up with Alexia. I just wanted to be her friend, nothing more.
When Annie left, Summer turned to me. "So, what are your favorites? You know, book, movie, tv show, song?"
"Book: Harry Potter definitely, movie: probably Harry Potter as well, but I like a lot of movies, show: maybe Vampire Diaries, and song: well, if i tried to tell you that, we'd be in here for hours."
Summer laughed. "Wow, I think you just broke a record!"
I laughed too. "What about you?"
"Well, book: Divergent, movie: I have many, I actually have a list on my phone that I can show you, show: Super Girl, and song: same as you."
"I think you just beat my record!" I laughed. "You know, I've never seen Super Girl— What?" She was looking at me with the funniest look on her face.
"You've never seen Super Girl?! Okay well I will show you. I will make sure you see it before Christmas. You can hold me on that." Summer said determined. I couldn't help but smile at how she took things like that so seriously. She was not about to change her mind. "And then you can show me Vampire Diaries because I haven't seen that either," she added.
"What?! Okay we're watching that too."
"Deal."
We both sipped our milkshakes.
"So, you know my siblings, do you have any?" Summer asked me.
"I have a sister named Aaliyah, actually, I don't know why I didn't think of it before, but she's the same age as Bobby and Taylor!"
"They might know each other from school! Maybe you could bring her over one day!" She exclaimed. I nodded enthusiastically. That would be fun. We drank more of our milkshakes. "So is this what you would usually get here?" Summer pointed to my milkshake.
"Well it depends what time I come. I do drink a lot of milkshakes though," I said sheepishly.
"I love milkshakes, but when I eat them after a meal I can never finish them because I am so full. This is nice." Summer took another sip, then looked at her watch. "Oh sh*t! I have to go! It's 10:30 already. My moms going to be worried." She tried to gulp down her milkshake then stopped and scrunched her face together, sucking in a breath.
"Brain freeze?" I asked. She nodded. I laughed and did the same thing. I scrunched up my face too, feeling the cold hit. Then it was her turn to laugh. "What's so funny?" I asked, pretending to look hurt.
"Your face," she kept laughing.
"You had the same face!" I laughed.
"Yeah, but I bet mine wasn't as bad!" She almost fell off her seat laughing. She took deep breaths trying to pull herself together. "Do you think you could drive me home?"
"Of course, ready to go?" We got up and payed at the counter, said bye to everyone, and got back in my car. As we drove, I told her a story about one time when I had walked all the way down there for lunch and forgot my money. She got out of the car laughing.
"Bye Shawn, thanks for such a great night. I had a lot of fun," she stood at the door and looked at me in a way that I wasn't expecting, it surprised me. It made me feel... I actually don't know how I felt, but whatever it was was new to me.
"Goodbye Summer, see you at school," I waved and drove away. That was a fun night. I was really glad that I finally got to meet Summer. Or at least, meet her properly, without any horrible drunk men or crying or pain.
I'm so sorry I didn't post yesterday! I was really busy, and I just got time to sit and edit.
