(Summer's POV)
The next day at school seemed to go by so slowly, it seemed like weeks had passed by the time me and Shawn drove to his house to study. It was getting a little better between us, but not much. It was still pretty awkward being around him. We finished going over the lessons he needed to know for the next math test, when Isabel called me. I signaled to Shawn that I was on the phone.
"Hey Izzy, what's up?"
"Summer it's my mom! She's in the hospital!" She sounded like she was very upset.
"Oh my god, what happened?"
"She was in a accident! Some guy came out of nowhere on the road!"
"Where are you?"
"I'm at the hospital with her, do you think you could come?"
"Of course! I'll be right there!" I assured her.
"But Summer, this means she can't drive us to Allen's this weekend!"
"And my mom can't because of the twins, does that mean we can't go to the party?"
"Yeah," Isabel said sadly.
"Oh, Izzy I'm so sorry! I know you really wanted to go."
"It's okay, there will be more parties."
"Here, I'm leaving right now to meet you. Bye!"
"Thank you so much Summer! Bye!"
I hung up the phone and looked at Shawn who had been listening the whole time.
"Shawn, Isabel's mom is in the hospital, she broke her arm. Is it okay if I cut this study session short so that I could go help her?" I pleaded.
"Of course, we finished anyway. Do you need a ride? I can drive you," he offered.
"Really? That would be awesome, thank you Shawn!"
We ran out to his Jeep and got in. He drove as fast as he could to get to the hospital. When we got to there he stopped me before I could get out of the car.
"You know, me and Brian are driving up to the lodge after school tomorrow, and you guys are welcome to join. We have plenty of empty seats."
Two hours in a car with Shawn, Brian, and Isabel? Didn't really sound like the best idea but it was the best we had so... "Wow, really? Shawn you are actually a life saver! Isabel is going to be so happy! Just text me where and when you want us to meet you tomorrow. And thank you!" Then I did something completely stupid and impulsive-I leaned over and kissed him on the cheek. I immediately stepped back horrified of what I had just done. I closed the door before I could see his reaction and ran inside and into the elevator. Once the doors closed I took a deep breath. Ugh Summer, why do you have to go ruin everything just when it's getting better?
(Shawn's POV)
Am I dreaming? Summer just kissed me on the cheek! My skin tingled where her lips had just been and I could hear my heart beating fast. And I get to drive her to the party this weekend! As I pulled away from the hospital doors I was smiling uncontrollably. She made me so happy. I just wish I hadn't screwed everything up.
When I go home I got all ready for the trip tomorrow. I packed my stuff and packed it in the car, then went over to Brian's to get his stuff. I wanted to tell him what had happened, but that would ruin the plan, so I called Alexia instead. I told her that we were now driving them to Allen's and that Summer had kissed me on the cheek. She laughed at how excited I was. "You really like her, don't you?" She said. I nodded, then remembered that she couldn't see me and said: "Yeah, I really do."
