(Summer's POV)

My heart started beating really fast; too fast, it seemed, to be physically possible. Maybe it wasn't. Maybe I was going to have a heart attack.

"Listen, Shawn has a severe concussion and a broken arm. He put it in front of you to save you."

"What?! Where is he? Will he be okay? Can I see him?" I jerked up off my bed again, fighting to get up, but my mom gently pushed me back down.

"Calm down, he will be okay, but he might have to stay in the hospital overnight. And no, you can't leave yet either. He woke up not that much before you but still nobody's allowed to see him except his family."

I couldn't believe this. She was making me sit here while Shawn, who had basically saved my life, was sitting alone in another room, with major injuries.

"Is there anything you need? Food? Water?" The doctor asked politely. I shook my head. The only thing I needed right now was Shawn. "Okay well, you should be able to leave in a few hours, once you're feeling better. I'll be back to check on you in a little bit." She left the room. It was just me and my mom.

"Mom, What happened?" I asked slowly.

My mom took a deep breath, almost like it hurt her to talk about this. "Well, when you were driving, a drunk guy swerved his car on the highway." I remembered hearing Shawn shout and watching him swerve the steering wheel. "Shawn saw and jerked the car out of the way by instinct. But it ran into another car in the next lane. From what I heard, Shawn stuck his arm in front of you to lessen the impact but you were both still knocked unconscious. That's why Shawn's injuries are worse than yours."

I stayed silent for a minute then asked: "And the others?"

"They're fine, just a few bruises and cuts, but they're really worried about you guys. They're in the lobby right now." My mom answered sadly. She started running my back.

"When can I see them? And when can I see Shawn?"

"Brian and Isabel can come see you now, do you want me to go get them?"

"Yes! Thank you! Please hurry!" I exclaimed.

"Okay..." my mom left the room. I was finally alone. I laid my head back on the pillow and stared at the ceiling. How had all of this happened in the few hours since we had left the ski house? What a perfect way to end such a perfect weekend! Not. I gingerly sat my self up in my hospital bed. Weirdly enough, my ribs already felt a little better. Probably because I had been moving them. By the end of the day, I would hopefully be able to walk around without wincing. That would be nice. Suddenly the door burst open and Brian and Isabel ran in, out of breath. Brian sat on the chair next to my bed and Isabel just hopped right in next to me. They looked disheveled and there were cuts on their face and arms. It took them a moment before they could talk. Isabel put her hand on my arm and said breathlessly:

"Oh, we're so glad you're okay. Well actually we knew you were okay, so I guess were just happy you're awake. The waiting room is pretty boring."

"Yeah." Brian pointed at Isabel with a tired finger. "What she said."

"Wow, how fast did you guys run up those stairs?" I asked.

"You mean, how fast did we run to the elevator," Isabel corrected. "We ran as fast as we could. Then when we got in, we pressed the button and I think that was the real challenge," she joked.

"And then we turned the door handle. Wow we really got a work out," Brian joined in. I shook my head and smiled, too tired to laugh.

"Guys, What happened?"

Isabel frowned like she was trying to avoid talking about this. "Well, the car swerved, and then Shawn swerved, and we hit the car. We all flew forward, Shawn put his arm out in front of you and hit his head on the steering wheel. Then you were both unconscious, and I don't really remember much after that." She looked down.

"Ugh." I put my head in my hands. "Have you seen Shawn yet?"

"Yeah, but he wasn't awake." Brian said.

"Oh," I said disappointedly.

"But as soon as they let us, we'll go straight there together!" Isabel exclaimed. I nodded and smiled at them.

"I-I-I think I need some fresh air you guys. Could you tell my mom when she comes back?" I stood up a little shakily, my ribs still aching.

"Are you sure you don't need us to come with you?" Isabel asked, looking concerned.

"No, I'll be fine," I brushed her off and walked slowly down the hallway, into the elevator, through the lobby, and out the front doors.
