(Summer's POV)
"Can you guys go any slower?" Brian stood in the doorway of our room as me and Isabel hurriedly packed our bags.
"We're going as fast as we can a**hole!" Isabel replied.
"Well I guess you're not very fast then," Brian shot back.
"Are you guys arguing again? I thought that ended when you started dating." Shawn poked his head in.
"Are you kidding? The arguing is the best part!" Isabel said and I laughed and shook my head. I zipped up my bag and stood up.
"Done!"
"Me too," Isabel said.
"Aright then, let's go!" Brian rushed everyone to the Jeep and we were on the road in a few minutes.
"Some trip, huh?" Shawn turned from the front seat and grinned at all of us.
"Yep," Brian put his arm around Isabel in the backseat and kissed her. I sighed and smiled. Shawn looked at me and placed his hand on my leg. I squeezed it and smiled at him.
"But it'll still feel good to be home," I said.
"Well, we won't be getting home if we don't get more gas," Shawn exclaimed, looking at the car meter.
"Here, there's a sign for a gas station over there." I pointed to the big green sign half swallowed by trees on the side of the highway. We pulled up next to one of the gas machines at the rest stop.
"So, anyone need to go to the bathroom, because I do," I said as I got out of the car.
"I do!" Isabel jumped out after me.
"Me too, Brian can you do this?" Shawn pointed to the gas meter and handed Brian the pump.
"We'll meet you outside, okay?" I said to Shawn. He nodded and we walked into our separate bathrooms. About a minute later I was in the stall and I heard Isabel say:
"Summer, I'm going back outside with Brian, meet you there!" And I heard the door close. How was she so fast?! I finished up and left to wash my hands. I was about to leave the what station when I remembered that I was going to get a coffee. I decided I would get one for Shawn too. (Brian and Isabel had plenty of energy.) I walked up to the counter and looked at the menu.
"Hi, can I get two medium coffees? No milk or sugar."
"Sure hot-stuff, is there anything else I can do for you?" The big burly man on the other side winked at me.
"Uhh," I started to feel uncomfortable.
"No that's all we need from you. And back off." Shawn walked up behind me. The man leaned over on the counter.
"And why would I do that?" He smirked.
"Because if you don't shut up and get my girlfriend her coffee right now I'll make sure both of those things happen by myself," Shawn said slowly and calmly. He was a good five inches taller than the man and definitely looked a lot stronger. The man grumbled and got the coffees. He handed them to me without looking at Shawn. I handed the man his money and Shawn took my hand and pulled me out the door. My brain finally caught up to what was going on. Shawn had called me his girlfriend. Me! His girlfriend! I squeezed his hand as a silent thank you as we walked to the car. He squeezed back and kissed the top of my head. I was so happy right then, on a road trip with my best friends and boyfriend. Nothing could go wrong.
Never say never!
