(Summer's POV)

"Oh come on! Not this song again! Isn't there anything else you like to listen to?" I groaned and covered my ears.

"Nothing else that's as good as this!" Brian grinned and turned up the volume. I sighed and sunk deeper into my seat.

"I personally loved this song the first time I heard it," Shawn interjected.

"See?" Brian looked at me and gestured at Shawn.

"But after the 1000th time, I officially hate it." Shawn finished his sentence with a small satisfied smile that gently lifted up the corners of his mouth and eyes. His smiles were literally the cutest thing I had ever seen. Brian grumbled and turned the volume back down in defeat, though he didn't change the song. I smirked and turned back to give him an I told you so-look. He looked away and Isabel laughed at him. I laughed too, and soon we were all laughing, even Brian.

What happened next, happened so fast, all I really remember was a blur of motion and lights. Suddenly I heard Shawn shout and saw him out of the corner of my eye, jerk the steering wheel as far to the right as he could. I spun around in my seat and watched as we crashed right into a car in the lane next to us. The pressure of the impact knocked the wind out of me, and that was the last thing I remembered.
                                ~~~~~~~~
My eyes opened slowly. It felt like my eyelids were weighted. I suddenly felt a pain in my chest and breathed in sharply, which made it worse. There was a bright light shining above me and I tried to sit up but someone stopped me. Someone I didn't recognize.
"Woah, lay back down sweetie. You need to rest. Moving around sure doesn't help broken ribs." The stranger in the nurses uniform put her hand on my shoulder and gently laid me back down. I then remembered everything that had happened.
"Where's Shawn?! Isabel? Brian? Where are my friends?!" I tried to get up again and winced from the pain in my ribs. "Are they okay? Please tell me they're okay. I need to know they're okay."
"Honey, calm down. No need to get worked up, you're fine." The nurse put her hand on my shoulder again. I shook it off.
"What happened?! Where are my friends?!" I asked again.
"Well sweetie, I don't really know a lot, all I know is that you were in a car crash and broke two ribs. I'm just here to check if you woke up. And you did, so, I'm going to go get the doctor. And your parents." She rushed out of the room without saying anything else.
I frantically tried to remember everything that had happened before I had blacked out. How had we crashed? I wondered. When could I get out of this stupid hospital room? Then my mom and a tall woman burst into the room. Well, my mom burst, the other woman (who I assumed was the doctor) gracefully stepped.
"Honey! Oh thank god you're awake! I was starting to think you would never open your eyes, and I didn't know what to do, and—" my mom hugged me, and although it was gentle, because of my ribs, I could feel her trembling with emotion.
"Mom, it's okay. I'm okay," I reassured her.
"I'm sorry, it's just, I, I love you so so much." She still hadn't let go.
"Mom I love you too, but," I paused, "what happened?"
She did let go this time, and looked at me sadly. "Oh, Summer, I don't know how to tell you this, but..."
But what???????
Sorry I had to leave you guys hanging there but it's more exciting that way.😉
