Upon arriving at the airport, I realised how not ready I was to return to Riverdale after everything. After begging and pleading with McCall to let me travel for a month before returning home, he finally agreed after having a chat with the higher ups in the FBI. I spend some time in San Francisco and Los Angeles, mostly keeping to myself as I explored the cities, and enjoyed my month of solitude.
As I finally pull into Riverdale. I know I made the right decision to give myself some time before returning home as the car moves through familiar streets. I wasn't ready to face everyone yet after all that had happened, both as I left Riverdale and in Glendale. As It feels odd to be back, but the excitement of seeing my family overwhelms any fear I have surrounding being back. For now.
"Are you excited to be back?" McCall asks me.
"I'm just excited to see my family." I say. "I think I made the right choice taking some time to myself before coming back. After everything that happened in Glendale, I needed time."
"I know, that's why I pressed the FBI to approve it." McCall says.
"Thank you, for everything McCall... Sorry for thinking you were in cahoots with Hiram." I say.
"I don't blame you. The way everything happened, I would've thought that too." McCall tells me, as we pull up at my house.
"I can't believe I'm back." I say, as I step out of the car.
"I just hope being back is what's best." He tells me,
"Me too." I hum.
"I spoke to your father this morning, he's very excited for your return." McCall says.
"Great." I say, excitement bubbling inside my chest.
McCall helps me drag my suitcase to the front porch, before the two of us share a moment of mutual understanding.
"Call me if you need something." He tells me.
"I will, thank you." I say.
He nods, going to turn away.
"Wait." I say, grabbing his wrist, he looks at me in confusion. "Are you too professional for a hug?"
"Usually, yes." He tells me. "But considering what the last few months have entailed, I'll make an exception."
McCall gives me a brief squeeze, before letting me go.
"Take some time off, McCall, go see your son." I advise him.
"You're wise beyond your years, Nova."
After I watch McCall drive away, I turn and instinctively walk through the front door, dragging my bag along with me. The house near silent, but my face lights up when I see Vegas run towards me, I drop my bag and bend down to his level, giving him scratches and cuddles as he excitedly shows me that he missed me.
"Nova?" I hear, I look up to see Fred stood at the door of the kitchen in front of me, I stand up and smile at him.
"Hi Fred." I say, suddenly feeling overcome with emotion as I run up and hug him tightly, he hugs me back so tightly it feels as if he thinks if he lets go, I'll disappear.
"I can't believe you're finally home." He says, almost as if he's about to cry.
"Me either." I say.
"It's been pretty rough here without you." Fred admits.
"Well, I'm back now." I say as he lets me go.
"You cut your hair?" He asks, I nod.
"And got my nose pierced." I giggle.
"You're still beautiful." He tells me.
