"Jughead Jones may be about to break a story." Mr Lodge says, taking a seat at a table containing Archie, Fred, Mrs Lodge, Veronica and I.
The next morning after my evening away with Sweet pea, he'd taken me home only for me to be immediately told we had to meet at the Lodges for some important reason, so after barely being in the door 5 minutes, I'd already had to leave again. I sit on the other side of Archie, my face slumped against my hands in boredom at the Lodge dinner table.
"You're scared of Jughead? Ha." I laugh.
"Nova, respectfully, I beg for your silence. This is serious." Mr Lodge asks.
"Alright I'll bite, what has my dear friend written that has you so spooked?" I ask.
"A story about my plans for Riverdale. And rather than hear it from him. I think it's only right that you hear it from me." Mr Lodge says toward Fred. I raise an eyebrow as I lift my head, what had Jughead found out that has Mr Lodge in such knots?
"Go ahead." Fred says.
Mr Lodge goes on to explain his plans; that he's going to be demolishing Southside High and turning the land into a high security prison.
"You're serious?" Fred scoffs. "Southside High is going to be turned into-"
"A private, for-profit prison." Mr Lodge says as if he's explaining the best thing since sliced bread.
"Yeah, built on the bones of a High School!" Fred exclaims. "What the HELL have we been building at SoDale?"
"What we've said all along; Housing." Mrs Lodge assures Fred, I press my nails into my leg, and bite down on my lip, trying to keep from exploding at the nerve of these people, the nerve of Hiram Lodge.
"For all the people who will work in the prison." Hiram says encouragingly.
"And you expect me to support this as mayor?" Fred says, he looks calm, but it only takes knowing Fred a little while to know when he's mad, and he's pissed.
"We were hoping you'd be open to it, yes." Hiram says.
"Do you forget my daughters from the southside? Her friends, Archie's friends, our friends, all live on the Southside? I can't do it. I'm out of here." Fred snaps, getting out of his chair, to which I immediately take to his side.
"Fred, look-"
"We've been in business for how long and you didn't tell me? The only reason you're telling me now is because it's about to become public!" Fred yells, interrupting Mrs Lodge.
"It'll admit, it's not ideal." Hiram says nonchalantly.
"Not ideal, Hiram? You wanna turn the town that I love, my home, the home of my children into a prison for your own benefit!" Fred growls, he walks away from the Lodges, to which I obviously follow.
"Fred, please. Let me tell you why and how this is the right move for us, for Riverdale." Hiram says, my blood boiling at his attempts at manipulation.
"You just save that for whoever it is that you find to run for mayor because we are leaving, and we are leaving now. C'mon Archie." Fred state angrily.
I then look over to Archie, who hasn't moved from the table. He gives me an apologetic look before looking at Fred.
"Actually dad, I'm gonna stay..." Archie says.
"Excuse me?" Fred says, I almost hear his heart break.
"What the fuck, Archie?" I snap, Fred puts a hand on my shoulder, probably to prevent me from attacking my brother.
