I stood in front of my full length mirror, ready for my day.
“You look beautiful.” Rex, my gay roommate said from behind me, placing a hand on my shoulder.
“Thanks.” I said. I took a nervous breath and turned around. Rex and I had grown up together in our last orphanage. We had some trouble getting the new one to let us stay in the same room together, but after a few attempts, we got our way. Rex was tall, with black scene-ish hair and grey/blue eyes. He was practically my big brother.
Rex handed me my slouchy batman backpack. I swung it onto my shoulder and glanced back at the mirror one more time. My black hair was styled in front of my eyes, the white tips framing my face. I couldn’t see my mismatched eyes, and for that I was grateful. They were my source of shame, the reason my parents committed suicide- they even said so in their will and suicide note.
My black leather jacket was tight-fitting, accentuating my slight curves. I wore black skinny jeans, two extra belts low on my hips, and a fuzzy red and black wolf tail, as if it were my own. My black combat boots came up to mid-shin and had spikes and buckles all over them. I had leather bracelets on both arms, and a black chain choker on my neck. I felt good about my outfit.
Just not about my body underneath of it.
I averted my gaze from the mirror and walked into Rex’s arms. He gave me a quick hug before shooing me out of the door. I smiled back at him one more time before I left the small room and the orphanage. I walked down the street toward school alone, my earbuds my only company.
‘I’m an addict for dramatics,
Black hair and pale skin-‘
I yelped as one earbuds was removed. I glared up at a guy taller than me- I was about 5’5 and he was probably 6’0. He had black scene-ish hair with crimson tips and sunglasses- the large frame blackout kind. He had the hood of his black hoodie pulled up over most of his head.
“The hell was that for?” I demanded. He smirked.
“I noticed you were the new kid, so I came to say hi, but you ignored me. I’ve been here for five minutes.”
I gaped at him, coming to a standstill.
“Five minutes? Are you a ninja?”
He grinned. “Yeah.”
“I’m Alex.” He said, sticking out a hand. I shook it.
“Blue.” I said. He cocked his head.
“That’s a weird name.”
“Well, I hate my real name, so I go by Blue.”
“Do you mind if I guess your real name?” He asked.
“Go ahead, but I’m sure you won’t get it.”
I started walking again, pausing my music.
“Okay Jessica.” Alex said.
I skidded to a stop and stared at him, astounded.
“Wha-what did- how?”
He smirked and grabbed my hand, tugging gently. “C’mon, we are going to be late on your first day.”
Bewildered, I followed him. I noticed how cold his skin was, but my skin was warm and tingling where he had touched me.
Surrounding Mountain Hills High was probably half of the student body. As I walked up with Alex by my side, literally every eye turned to me. I ducked my head, knowing that when the two of us showed up, there would be drama. I hadn’t looked closely, but I saw a lot of preps and jocks, all trouble to the ‘emo’ kids.
