BLUE
I heard the beeping of a machine. Faint voices were near me. I tried to open my eyes, but they were crusty and dry.
“…five days, goddamnit. We gave her all the blood we could. It’s up to her. She’s a fighter, Alex. She’ll make it.”
“I know… what if she finds out though…what if we lost our chance?” I didn’t recognize the first voice, and the second sounded familiar, but I couldn’t place it. I groaned and opened my eyes.
“I told you.” The first voice said. I heard a smack and a quiet groan.
I opened my eyes to see a guy hovering over me. He had amber eyes and jet black hair. He looked pale as a ghost. He was biting his lower lip. I saw a flash of piercings on his lip. His eyes bore into mine as I struggled to speak. A girl who was standing on my other side noticed and handed me a glass of water. I took it and drank the whole thing in one gulp.
“Thank you.” I said, smiling gratefully at her. She nodded.
“Blue?” The guy asked.
I frowned. Why was he talking about a color? Where am I?
“I’m not talking about a color, and you are in the hospital.” He said.
Wait, I said that out loud?
He rolled his eyes. “Yeah, you did.”
I stared at him in shock. Who was this guy?
“Do you remember anything?” the girl asked me. I frowned and shook my head.
“Who are you?” I asked them both. The guy’s eyes widened and he backed away.
“No,” he whispered.
I stared at him, trying to place where I had seen him before.
His eyes were wild, like an animals’. Then, he turned, and he was gone. Just like that.
I blinked.
“Who was that?” I asked the girl.
She frowned and glanced at the door.
“His name is Alex, hun. He’s your boyfriend.”
I shook my head. “No.” I said. “Impossible. I don’t have a boyfriend. I live in an orphanage. Who would want a girl like me?”
“He would.” She whispered. She bit her lip and lost herself in thought for a moment. It was quiet except for the quiet beeping of what I now realized was the heart rate monitor.
“Get some rest.” She said finally. “You need it.” She patted my leg and walked out, throwing one more glance over her shoulder at me.
I felt like I was missing something. I stared off into space moodily.
My mind went over the things I know.
My name is Jessica, I don’t have a last name, my parents committed suicide because of me, and I’m into bands like Sleeping with Sirens, Korn, Pierce the Veil, and Slipknot.
That’s all, right?
