ALEX

Three days later, Snow and I were in the main room of the house when there was a knock on the door. Snow got up to answer it. A man on the other side handed Snow a letter. Snow closed the door and handed me the letter. I opened it.

Alex,

Blue got her memories back. She was poisoned and is losing the baby. She needs you here.

For a minute, I just sat there in shock. Blue got her memories back, which was amazing, but she was losing the baby. Poisoned.

“Snow, pack up. We are on the first plane out of here.”

Snow nodded and ran off to her room. I sprinted up the stairs and packed the few things I had brought with me. It didn’t occur to me until we were on the plane that I had commanded Snow, not given her a choice.

BLUE

Four days. Four days I had been sitting here, being poked and prodded with needles, without news from the doctors of my baby. I didn’t know if it was dead or alive.

I heard yelling in the hallway. Then a crash. Another voice, yelling. I looked up at the door but didn’t do anything. Someone ran down the hall. My door opened. I looked away.

“Blue?”

That voice…

I looked up.

“Alex.” My eyes were brimming with tears. He came straight to me, wrapping me in his arms. I rested my palm against his chest, reassuring myself that he was there, solid and alive.

“Are you okay?” He asked. I didn’t know how to respond. He slid onto the hospital bed next to me. I climbed onto his lap and curled up against his chest. His arms tightened around my waist and he caressed my slight bump.

“I don’t know if I lost the baby,”

His hand stilled and his eyes widened slightly, flickering amber in the low light. I watched him carefully, gauging his reaction to the news. He was completely still.

“Twins,” He breathed. Now my eyes widened. Twins? I could lose twins because someone poisoned me? His eyes cleared and he looked down at me with a breathtaking smile. “They are okay.” He whispered.

“Oh my god,” I whispered. He gently cupped my jaw in one hand and leaned down toward me. I closed my eyes. He kissed me with love and passion. I could feel his emotions through the simple kiss. When he pulled away, I leaned my head against his chest.

“I love you,” I whispered. He rested his chin on my head.

“I love you too.”

We stayed in silence for a while, simply relishing in the other’s presence. Alex’s hand rested over mine on my baby bump, our fingers intertwined. I felt a slight kick, the first in four days. Alex smiled. I gasped as I felt another kick. He was right, they were alive. My eyes brimmed with tears again, but this time they were tears of joy.

Despite being in the hospital, I was in the arms of the love of my life, pregnant with twins. My life felt complete in that moment.
