BLUE

Alex walked me back to the orphanage a few minutes later.

Under the light of a street lamp, he drew me to his chest and kissed me, one arm around my shoulders, and the other low on my hips. I threw my arms around his neck and pulled him down to meet me halfway, as I was already on my tippy toes. He released me eventually. I looked up at him lovingly, wondering at the fluttery feeling in my heart and stomach.

“You’ll be the death of me.” He grinned.

“Literally.” A chilling voice replied from not far away. Alex’s features suddenly turned dangerous as he glared at a man standing not thirty feet away. I gulped. The guy was bald, maybe in his mid- thirties. He wore a tan trench coat and combat boots. Alex’s arms tightened around me.

“Aw, that’s so sweet- the vampire and the human.”

I was confused. What’s up with people around here always thinking Alex is a Vampire?

The man pulled back the side of his trench coat to reveal a sharp wooden stake and a few knives. My eyes widened. This guy wanted to kill us! I froze in fear. Alex held me tighter.

“Leave us alone.” He growled. The man smirked.

“Only for now.”

Then he just walked away.

“Who the hell was that?” I asked. Alex’s eyes were still on the space the man had left. I couldn’t blame him.

“I don’t know.” He murmured. His gaze focused on me. “If you ever see him again, please tell me, okay?”

I nodded, looking into his deep blue eyes. He smiled and gave me a gentle kiss before he slung his arm around my shoulders and walked me back to the orphanage.

I stood in the doorway of the orphanage as he drove off, his jacket still wrapped around my shoulders. With a smile, I went to my room, ignoring the dirty look from the receptionist.
