(Y/n)'s POV

It was quiet.

It was so quiet that I could hear my heart beating. It was beating slowly at its normal speed. Despite the fear and the agony I was feeling my heart beat didn't change. It continued going at its normal speed, at that annoying rhythm that I couldn't stop before he came to face me.

I was sitting on a chair with my hands and legs being chained on it. My body was feeling tired, exhausted. I wanted to sleep and never wake up. I wanted to rest forever. Yet I couldn't, because every time I tried to sleep an elective wave was coming over me waking me up.

I didn't know how long I have been here. Maybe it had been days or weeks. Maybe it had been minutes or hours. I don't know and I don't care anymore. I just want someone to put me out of this misery. I want someone to end all of this. I want someone to kill me, because I know very well that running away alive is going to bring me more trouble. It's going to bring them after me, after my head.

Suddenly, the door of this room was unlocked and opened. At first I closed my eyes tightly because of the sudden light. It took me some minutes to get used to it, but I didn't need to see who had entered. I knew very well who was standing in front of me. He was here, wearing his normal black with red clouds cloak. A serious look in his face, yet I could see the sadness behind it. I could understand everything about him. That's what I had to do in order to gain information out of him.

-"(Y/n) (L/n). I will repeat this one last time." Konan said as she stood beside her childhood friend.
-"To whom did you give the information you gathered?"

I stayed silent. My mind knew the answer. I could have answered from the beginning, yet I didn't. I preferred to die as a faithful ninja than betraying my village.

At the time that I was given to answer I stared in the eyes of the man I betrayed the most. He was standing right in front of me, looking at me with so much hate. He wanted to make me pay for everything, yet he couldn't bring himself to hurt me more. He couldn't bring himself to hurt the one he cared about more than his friends.

-"Answer (Y/n) and we will think about letting you live." Konan said when she saw that I wasn't going to answer.

A bittersweet laugh escaped my lips after her words. My mind playing games with me for a little with possible answers, but I held myself back. Using sarcasm right now wasn't going to help me, but it's not like I am going to leave alive from here anyway.

-"Do you think that I am stupid?" I asked her as I glanced at her.
-"You are going to kill me anyway, so what's the point in all of this?"

-"We are giving you a chance." Konan answered as she gave Pain a small glance.

-"I don't deserve it." I answered quickly as I looked at Pain.
-"I don't deserve anything. Just kill me already. You know very well that I am not going to speak. So kill me and take the information you want to!"

He didn't answer immediately. He glanced at Konan and with a nod from him she turned around leaving the room. Once the door was closed he returned his beautiful, yet harsh, eyes on me. He stayed quiet for a little before finally speaking.

-"Tell me (Y/n). Why did you need to get so close to me for some pitiful information?"

I got serious suddenly trying to remember how I ended up here. I was supposed to join the Akatsuki as a spy for my village, Konoha. In order to take more information I had to get close to their boss, Pain. At first it was hard and difficult to even see him, but after a little I finally managed to start conversations with him. I managed to get so close that he ended up trusting me more than Konan, more than himself. That's when my mission ended and I knew that I will end up dead soon enough. That was the time I accepted my fate. I accepted my wrong decisions.

-"My aim wasn't to get so close." I started saying to him.
-"I just wanted to make you trust me. Yet things got more complicated. So here we are now. Here we stand. A step before my death and your next fight."

-"You still got a chance."

-"No I don't." I said without taking my eyes off him.
-"I know that if you don't kill me Madara Uchiha is going to come after me. So do it. Finish the work that have been left unfinished. Finish what others couldn't."

He didn't answer. He just lift his right hand putting it on my head. I knew what was coming. He was going to use that move, the "Human path". A jutsu that grants you the ability to read the mind of any target by placing his hand on the target's head or chest and yanking the soul out of the body. Though it's going to provide him with all the intel he is searching for, the technique inevitably kills the target. It's going to kill me.

-"It was nice knowing you Nagato. Maybe we can meet again, in the afterlife." I said with a soft smile.

-"See you there (Y/n)."

After that everything got dark. The last thing I remember seeing before my death was a tear running on his cheek. A single tear. A tear of true sadness.

-"I told you that you still have feelings Nagato."
