Francis -- my best friend, a star student, teachers' pet, a well-known, respected figure at school, a fighter, valued traditions; Francis -- a rebel, violent, reckless, a player, girls swoon at his looks, calculating, cold, merciless, twisted...

                                        ~*~

Of all the words I can use to describe Francis, I never thought of vulnerable. It hurt for me to see him, shoulders slumped, jaws slack, eyes so far away when he was actually before me. But that posture soon changed when I stepped closer. He was so quick that if I hadn't known him beforehand, I'd thought he was a relaxed person. But no, I saw through that shallow mask.

His expression was calm on the outside, but he was stiff. His eyes were still the baby blue I loved but something felt off.

" 'ow may I 'elp you, ma cherie?"

Ah, yes, his nickname for me. I used to be called: chouchou. Whatever that means. And his language... he usually speaks in 'pirate dialect' when we're alone...

"Are you alright?" I asked softly, voice creaking a bit. He nodded.

"Go back inside, lassie-- I mean, Gillian."

At this point, I knew there was something amiss.

I ran back into the hospital, to my friends, when I leapt into the twins' arms again.

Dianne offered me chocolate-- which I gladly took-- since she knew I'm a chocoholic. Analisa patted me as I sobbed... broke down once again.

"Where's the strong Gilli I know and like, eh?" Analisa cooed. She always had a soft spot for me.

That was a good question... but my mind wandered to Francis's image, when we first met.

Where was the FRANCIS I LOVED?!?

I swore I heard my heart break.

                                                                ... Being in love sucks,

why can't I just shrug it off!?

                                                                                                                                Damnit.
