Emiri watched as the yellow light slowly turned to green, and at the sound of Present Mic's voice, everyone started running.
"And we're off to a racing start!" Present Mic announced.
The tips of Emiri's mouth curved up as she saw that she was right. Everyone had started running at the same time and the sheer amount of students had caused them all to get stuck within the tunnel. Taking a deep breath she ran up to the crowd of struggling students and grabbed onto one of Shoji's arms.
"Thanks for the help up, Shoji!" She called as she started to jump from the head of one student to the other. She made her way though the tunnel, getting closer to the other side. It seemed that some others had gotten out before her. A chill washed over her and she landed on the ground, slipping and immediately falling to the ground. It looked like Todoroki had coated the ground in ice.
"Cold." She muttered. Some other students behind her had managed to get free and were now slipping and sliding over the ice. Her forearm turned into the blade of a sword and she stuck it into the ice, shivering as the cold spread through the blade. Not hesitating, she pushed herself up and quickly slipped off her shoes and socks and holding them in her hands, turning her feet into the small blades of a scythe. Pushing forwards, she slid across the ice and started catching up to Todoroki who now had the lead.
Emiri kept skating forwards until she halted to an immediate stop when familiar robots appeared in front of her. The two pointers from the exam, though, it wasn't only the two pointers from the entrance exams—
"Holy crap they're huge!" Someone who skidded to a halt next to Emiri asked.
Looking around, Emiri saw that some students that had been stuck near the front of the crowd when they were in the tunnel.
"So this is what the others students faced in the entrance exams." Todoroki said from a few steps in front of Emiri. And the smaller teen watched as one of the zero pointers made a move to grab Todoroki, only to be frozen by the said teen that ran between their legs.
"He froze the robots!" One of the students shouted.
"Look, between the legs, we can get through!" Another one claimed.
Emiri hadn't wasted any time once she saw Todoroki freeze the robots. Luckily for her he also froze the ground so skating under the robots from behind Todoroki was a breeze for her. Though just as she got out from under the robot's legs there was a loud groaning and she looked over her shoulder to see that the ice coated robots were crumbling, leaving a block in the path for other students.
"That was a power move from Todoroki Shouto, and it seems that Koyama Emiri is not too far behind! I wouldn't expect anything less from the kids of strong Pro Heroes!" Present Mic announced.
Taking a second to quickly shift her feet back to normal and slide on her shoes, Emiri kept on running, watching as Todoroki stopped for just a second in front of her before he repositioned himself and started gliding forwards.
Emiri slowed to a stop, looking at what the second obstacle has in store for her. Looking over a deep valley she saw that pillars were reaching up from the black depths with ropes acting as tightropes to help everyone get past the obstacles. Emiri saw that the ropes that Todoroki had gone over were now coated in a layer of ice.
Todoroki is a good help during this race. Emiri thought to herself, turning her forearms into sickle blades, carefully hooking them on the ice coated rope before making her way slowly across the valley.
As she made her way to the other side, Emiri saw that a a few students had gotten ahead of her— all students that had quirks that could be used to soar through the air. She would have to be sure to catch up with everyone who had gotten ahead of her. She lifted herself up onto the ground once she reached the other side, immediately going back to running.
She soon reached the third and last obstacle, and if the signs meant anything, Emiri assumed that the field that stretched in front of her was full of mines.
"Now, it looks like the first few competitors are reaching the last obstacle! You'd better tread carefully, because you're all stepping onto a mine field! If you look carefully, you can see where those little bombs are buried, so keep your eyes on the ground folks. Bye the way, those land mines are designed for the games, so they might be loud and flashy, but they're not that powerful." Present Mic announced, confirming Emiri's suspicions.
So it's set up to give those in the lead a disadvantage. Emiri thought to herself. Once again, she slipped off her shoes and her feet turned into flat shields, and her arms turned into long-blade swords. Crouching, she stuck her blade-arms into the ground and pushed herself forwards, practically skiing over the mines and setting them off behind her. Hearing the shouts of other students who got caught up in the explosions she set off, Emiri giggled a bit. In front of her, she saw that Bakugo was using his explosions to fly over the mine field and had managed to pass Todoroki.
"And just like that, a new student takes the lead! The crowd is going crazy, there's nothing they love more than an upset! Hey, hey, hey, the rest of the competitors are catching up too!" Present Mic shouted.
As Emiri kept propelling herself through the minefield, she stumbled slightly and halted to look behind her as a giant pink cloud rise up from the ground. She watched with wide eyes as a familiar green haired boy flew out of the smoke, soaring above the mine field.
"Whatever the case, class 1-A Midoriya Izuku is suddenly in hot pursuit of first place! Scratch that, the lead is his!"
Emiri's shoulders sagged, there was now way she was getting in the top three when she was competing with those three. But, that didn't mean she couldn't work to move on. Someone she looked up to once told her that 'You don't have to win all the battles in order to win the war'.
As she made her way through the mine field, she noticed that Todoroki had stated to make a path of ice on the ground. Jumping off the dirt and changing her feet into the scythe blades, she started to skate the rest of the way through the third obstacle. Once she reached the end she turned her feet back to normal, Emiri didn't bother putting her shoes back on as she ran the last stretch of the race.
"Aizawa! Your students are amazing, what the heck are you teaching them?" Present Mic said.
"This has nothing to do with me. Each of them is powered by their own drive to succeed." Aizawa said.
Below her feet, Emiri felt the ground change from the dirt of the course to the concrete of the stadium as she entered the tunnel. The more she ran, the louder the crowd got.
"And the winner of the first event is Class 1-A's Midoriya Izuku!" Present Mic announced, the crowd roaring louder.
Emiri slowed to a stop once she reached the end of the tunnel, the cheering crowd filling her senses. She placed her hands on her knees as she worked on catching her breath. She glanced up at the scoreboard, she had managed to get 5th place.
