When Peter entered the apartment 30 minutes later, he heard a groan coming from the bedroom; dropping his keys on the counter, he found Carla sat on the edge of the bed, clutching her stomach, a wet patch on the floor.

"Peter" she groaned. "She's coming..."

"Its okay, I've got you" he said, grabbing the baby bag at the end of the bed and pulling her up.

"Michelle?"

"I'll call her" he said, pulling his mobile out as he did her trainers up. "Michelle, Carla's in labour, meet us at the car"

Shoving his phone back in his pocket, he support Carla as he helped her out, grabbing his keys on the way; settling her on the back seat with Michelle holding her hand, he quickly got in the driving seat and headed for the hospital.

Twenty minutes later, they were in a room in the maternity unit; their consultant, Doctor Williams, had been bleeped, Scott had been notified and a midwife was checking her obs.

"Carla, my name is Annie, I'm gonna help you today; I just need to do a few checks first"

"Peter, make it stop" she cried as a contraction hit.

"Its okay, I'm here, Michelle's here; we've got you" he said as they both took her hands. "Try and breath through the contractions"

"I can't do this; I need to get out of here" she screamed, fighting Annie off.

"Hey, kiddo, talk to us; what's going on in your head?" Michelle asked, taking a chance that maybe it was more than just the labour causing her to act out.

"I'm scared, too much noise, too much light...its too much" she whimpered, her eyes darting across the room.

"Okay, can we get a minute? Her key worker should be here in a minute?" Michelle asked the doctor and midwife.

As they headed out the room, Peter stroked her hair as Michelle kept her grip on Carla's hand.

"Carla love, look at me, what will help?" Peter asked.

"Scott"

"He's on his way, what else?"

"Bear?"

"We left it at home but listen to me, I'm here; we're gonna get you through this. Do you trust us?"

She grimaced before nodding as the contraction passed.

"Will you let Annie check how far along you are? Once we know, we can work out a plan..."

"Don't leave me" she pleaded, looking at him with tear stained cheeks.

"I wont" he said, nodding the two medics outside. "Keep your eyes on me and keep breathing, in for five and out for five..."

Ten minutes later, Scott arrived; after a chat with Doctor Williams, he knocked on the door and entered.

"Hi Carla, how you doing?" He asked, standing next to Peter.

"I don't feel right"

"How do you mean?"

"Too much noise..."

"From what I've been told, I think your senses are just overloading with the emotions of the labour; you're almost ready to push and then we can see how you are afterwards. Maybe we can give you a sedative to calm you, if we need to..."

"Make it stop" she pleaded as another contraction hit.

Several hours after been admitted, Carla was finally in the delivery suite with her newborn daughter safely in her arms.
