"Can we not make a big deal out of this?" Tom said as he sat on the couch holding two drinks and giving me one.
I took the drink and set it on the coffee table and shifted my body to face him.
"Oh Tom it is a big deal! You're going to be the next Spiderman! You're gonna be so famous!" I said as I hit his arm in excitement.
"Yeah, I know...but it's not a big deal." He shrugged as he took a sip of his tea.
I rolled my eyes "it's not a big deal!" I mocked "of course it is! Why aren't happier?"
I looked at me with a frown "because if I make it a big deal then it's real and I don't want it to be real right now. Not here...with you."
"Come on! You have been auditioning for this role for months and I'm happy for you this is supposed to be a celebration party not a cry it out party."
"I know I just-" he sighed "when I get famous things will be different, a lot different with us. You know? No more hanging out all the time or living next to each other...it's going to change our whole relationship. And I hate that." He looked down at his tea, fiddling with the spoon he had stirred it with.
I grabbed his tea and set it on the table as I sat closer to him "Yeah things will be different, I'll be here, in London, starting my cafe and you'll be in LA starting your big acting career...we knew this was going to happen eventually. And I'm happy for you I really am."
He grabbed my hand and began to gently rub my thumb as he let out a shaky sigh "and us? What's going to happen?"
I kissed his forehead and he laid his head on my shoulder as I began to comfort him.
"It'll be okay, Tom. Everything that should happen will happen."
He began to tear up "I don't want to leave. I don't want to leave you. Tell me not to go, (y/n)."
I tried to hold back the tears, I didn't want him to leave but I knew if I told him to stay he would and then he would resent me for the rest of his life.
He sat up and looked at me, his eyes red and puffy "tell me this is a stupid idea and I should just stay here with you."
"You know I can't do that." I said biting my lip to hold back the tears.
"But I love you (y/n)...I love you so much. I could stay here and help with your business."
"And you really think I'm going to let you? Tom, you're Spiderman! The Spiderman! I'm not gonna let you give that up for me."
"But you know you I would right? You do know that I love you so much more than any stupid role I could get...right?" He said looking into my eyes as he held onto my hands tightly.
I nodded my head "yes I know...I know."
"I'm going to miss you so much." He said as he looked at my hands and smiled. "I'm going to miss everything about you."
"I'm going to miss you too." I held onto him tightly and we just sat there with each other for hours not wanting to get up, because if we did we knew we wouldn't be together anymore. He would be in another country and I'd be here.
"I love you, Tom." I finally said breaking the silence.
"I love you too (y/n)..."
FOUR YEARS LATER
"Angie can you tell Mr. Wilson his coffee will be a little while longer? This stupid machine is busted again." I said as I hit the coffee machine with my hand.
