I walked back home. More like ran back home. Where I fumbled with the keys to open a door. And once I finally got in, I ran into Keith who was eating a banana.
Keith gave me a look that said ‘what happened?’. But I didn’t let him talk, because I ran immediately into my room. Throwing my sweatshirt onto the floor and keys on my nightstand. And I just buried my face into my pillow surrounded with all my stuffed bear collection.
I don’t know why or when it happened but I eventually after minutes started tearing up. I hated the fact I was human, I hated that I had emotions and that I was a girl. I hated that I found Ethan again after middle school leave and I hated how I had no boyfriend at the time.
Boys were jerks. They were a joke.
I heard knocks at my door. And I knew it was Keith. He was probably here to gloat. I heard the door open and then close. And then the bed went down a little as someone sat at the edge of my bed.
“Go away” I said with a dry mouth and stuffy eyes.
“What’s wrong, Daisy?” Keith’s voice spoke in sympathy.
I stood silent, not wanting to talk to him. He probably knew that me being in this state was exactly proving that I was weak. And weak meant that I was an emotionally unstable girl. A girl who needed someone. And he was the only one here.
“Did something bad happen? You wanna talk about it?” he continued to talk, this time rubbing my back.
I lifted my head from the pillow and gave Keith a long cold stare. I wasn’t weak without him!
“Can I tell you a story?” Keith asked taking my hand in his. His touch warm and smooth. It sent a wave of uneasiness to my stomach, though I didn’t dare say anything.
“One day there was this teenage boy who was as lonely as a tree trunk. His mom saw how sad he was so she decides to help him make friends. So, one day when they went to the supermarket, his mom’s shopping cart clashed into another mom’s shopping cart. It just so happened to be that their was a girl the same age as him that was going to the supermarket with her mom on the same day too… His mom thought it was a great way to help her son get a friend, by first getting to know her mom. Little did the teenage boy know that the girl was out of her mind. If she got a friend she wanted to have a friend for herself, it was partly the reason why she also had no friends, especially not boys. After some time, his and her parents got to know each other a lot, and finally the kids became friends. But, the girl didn’t consider the boy her friend. No, she told everyone that he was her boyfriend. Of course the boy didn’t know until very late. As time passed with a friend, the boy got a girlfriend, one that he really loved. And one day the boy was spending time with his friend at the cafe, the boy’s girlfriend passed by and caught them two…”
Now, why did that sound familiar?
“The girlfriend was so confused and asked a simple question as to why a girl she didn’t know was spending time with him… she asked “Who is this?”. The boy didn’t want anyone to fight or wanted his girlfriend to think badly of him so he answered “my cousin”. And before the girl was fully out the door, the boy’s friend lied and yelled out “he’s my boyfriend”. All because the boy’s friend was in love with the idea to have a boyfriend and make people jealous. And because of that lie they were NEVER EVER friends again. Because his ex-girlfriend didn’t go to the same school or answer his calls”
