“Adam Beckward?”
“Here”
“Carla Newton?” hey it was Carla!
“Present”
“Daisy Darwin?” my homeroom teacher called.
“Here!” I raised my hand in the air. Only to be seen by the teacher and gave her nod of her head in approval.
“Ethan Jefferson?”
That name sent a jolt of shock through my body. Ethan Jefferson was here! At this very moment? With me?!
“Flirting with the ladies!” the voice called back.
Snickers and low laugh echoed through the classroom. On the other hand my eyes looked around the classroom to find, my Ethan.
Except, I had help from all eyes that were wandering to the last person that spoke after his name. It was none other than my ‘royal pain in my butt’. The guy who flirted with me since my first day here.
My heart sank deep, deep into the pits of my stomach. That couldn’t be ETHAN Jefferson! No! My best friend hated girls, because he was awkward around them. He told me girls had cooties!
**Flashback**
It was play time during the first grade. I ran outside into the school’s school yard. Eager to play on the slide and play with the fake little telescope.
I looked ahead through the telescope. And at the moment I could see a little boy on the benches, looking at the ground. Swinging his feet in loneliness, elbows on his knees and hands under his chin. That just made me want to near the boy and ask what was wrong, and talk to him.
And that’s exactly what I did. I pushed the little boy’s shoulder.
Which only caused him to look up at me and say, “Don’t touch me. You have girl cooties!” he gave me a shocked expression. Like I committed a crime, touching him.
“Do not!” I argued.
“Do too!”
“DO NOT!” I yelled back, arms crossing over my body in stance.
“Ethan? Daisy? Why are you guys fighting?” My teacher, Ms. Suzy asked us.
“Ethan said I have cooties!” I shouted in my defence.
“Ethan, is that true?” she asked.
He shrugged not wanting to answer the question.
“Can you say sorry, Ethan to Daisy?” the teacher asked nicely.
“No” Ethan responded.
“Why not?” Ms. Suzy asked confused.
“Because she’s a girl” he argued.
“So?” I asked.
“Girls are never my friends. I only say ‘sorry’ to my friends” Ethan said looking down.
“Ethan, I think you and Daisy can be friends. Right Daisy? You want to be friends with Ethan?” Ms. Suzy asked me.
I nodded my head, hesitantly. Afraid Ethan would reject me to be his friend, again.
“See, Ethan” Ms. Suzy said.
He didn’t answer. Which made Ms. Suzy say to me privately., “I’m sure Ethan is just in a bad mood, Daisy”
**Flashback Over**
SEE! That Ethan totally wasn’t the Ethan I knew!
