October 22nd
"Of course I don't want this to be over." He gives me a reassuring hug.
I don't hug him back. Do I want this to be over? My phone starts to ring. It's my sister."Hello?" I answer.
"Alice?" She is crying.
"What's wrong?" I walk away from Toby.
"Will you come over please?"
"Sure, but I don't know how to get to your house." For some reason I am actually worried.
She gives me her address.
"That was my sister." I tell Toby. "Do you need my car? It probably isn't safe to take a cab at this time of the night."
Oh. "Uh, I have my own car now." I tell him hesitantly."When did you get your own car, and from who?" His voice has changed to mad again.
"My mom, and around my birthday." I answer his question. "I have to go."
I grab my keys and leave before he can say anything else. On my way down the stairs I put her address in the GPS on my phone. I get in my car and follow the direction my phone tells me. This better be important.I arrive at her large house. As soon as I knock on her door she answers it. She doesn't have any makeup on, her hair is a mess, and is in sweat pants and a t-shirt. I have never seen her like this.
"He cheated on me." She bursts out into tears and hugs me as soon as I enter her house."Why are you telling me this?" I ask.
"Well, all my friends will judge me, mom will tell me to forget about it and stay with him, but you will be blunt and not sugar coat it. You could judge me, but you have done so much stuff you don't have room to." Tears are pouring from her eyes.
I roll my eyes. "See this is why I don't get emotionally attached to guys." The words fall out of my mouth. That use to be true. That was true until Toby. Toby would never cheat on me. At least I hope he wouldn't.
"Alice I have kids and a use to be great marriage." She sobs.
"Where are the kids?" I ask as we sit down on the couch.
"At moms."
"You need to see a movie." I get off the couch and look at all the movies on the book shelf. The Other Woman I find that is still in the wrapper. "This will tell you what to do." I pull it out.
"I don't know the girl that he cheated on me with, or girls." She sniffles her nose.
We watch the movie and I have four missed calls from Toby, but I ignore them all. I don't know why I feel the need to help her. It's not like she has ever helped me. Well, she has helped me sneak to my room without mom seeing me, and a lot of stuff. Okay, so she isn't that horrible. The reason I guess is that I love her because she is my sister after all.
"So I should divorce him?" Her eyes have began to water up again.
I spot a baby crib from the corner of my eye. She had her baby, and I completely forgot she was even pregnant. Well was pregnant. I don't blame her for not inviting me to see the baby.
To answer her question I nod my head. "I haven't had much experience with this stuff, but I don't think you guys will ever be right again." I bluntly tell her.
"What about my kids?" She asks.
"They will be fine, and you will go to court. Mom can help you with that part. Just tell her the truth." I stand up getting ready to leave.
"Where are you living now?" She asks hesitantly.
"With my boyfriend." I grab my keys.
"I thought you didn't get caught up in that stuff."
"Don't listen to me. Remember you think I'm crazy." I walk out of the house.
It's almost three o'clock in the morning. I drive back to Toby's apartment. His car is here. I go inside and my bags are packed sitting on the couch. He is sitting next to them.
"I think we both know that wasn't your sister." He stands up.
"What?" I ask obviously caught off guard.
"Just take your stuff and get out." He turns away from me.
"That was my sister. I have been with my sister this whole time!" I raise my voice.
"I said get out!" He raises his voice now.
"No Toby. You can check my phone! I wasn't cheating on you, I swear!" I hand him my phone.
As he takes my phone I start to get mad. "You think I would really do that?"
He hands me my phone back, but doesn't answer my question.
"Obviously you really did. Maybe you would do that, but I wouldn't ever." I grab my bags. "Maybe I should go so you can call some girl and invite her over."
"Alice, I didn't mean it like that." He runs his hands through his grown out, dark hair.
"Then how did you mean it?" I turn around quickly. There is no answer. I wait in the blazing silence for an answer. "That's what I thought."
"Please don't leave." His crystal blue eyes meet mine."Why? Tell me one good reason." I know I actually don't want to leave, but something is telling me to. He needs to know he can't just accuse me of things.
"I need you. I don't want to be away from you for another minute. You've been gone almost all day, and I don't want to fight with you anymore. I just want to go to bed and cuddle, or watch an extremely sappy movie. If that's what you want. I just want you to be happy." Words fall from his mouth, very sweet words.I put my bags back down and give him a hug. He gives me a long sweet kiss. I've missed this today. "I'm done fighting with you Toby." I look into his eyes.
"Me too." He says and I put my head into his neck.
.........
October 23rdI wake up before Toby. I get out of bed to make myself some coffee. Coffee use always reminded me of adults, and it seemed like you had to be sophisticated to drink it. Except I don't know where the coffee mugs are. I search the cabinets. Then a thought pops into my mind.
Where did he put the cocaine and vodka I got last night?
