Chapter 32

October 24th

"It's very lonely without you at the apartment." I'm sitting next to him on the bed.

"I'm sorry." His blue eyes look into mine.

"Is it my fault?"

"I think it's my body's fault." He takes my hands into his.

"I was thinking about getting a job." I change the subject.

"Why would you want to do that? Both of our parents give us money."

"I need something to do besides lay around all day." I give him a little smile.

"Where?" He questions.

"I don't know yet. It was just a thought."

"Alright, here are your discharge papers." A nurse hands them to Toby. I grab my bag and take it in the bathroom. I need to get dressed for Toby's surprise party. Carol and Steve thought he would like that. They contacted his friends for me. I haven't met any of his friends before.

I take out a dress that is probably too short and tight for this type of party, but it's all I could find. It's dark blue and long sleeved for the cold breeze that came in last night. I walk out of the bathroom and a big smile forms on Toby's face.

"We are going out to dinner." I pull out an outfit that I picked out for him, and he pulls one out from his bag too.

"No way I'm wearing that." A smile plays on his lips.

"Toby we are going to a dinner." I tilt my head.

"This is fine." He pulls his shirt off. His pants come off next. He starts to giggle in the cutest way. "Starring?" He raises an eyebrow.

"No.." I pull my eyes away from him.

"Wow! You weren't kidding when you said he had a booty." Rachel walks into the room and slides her sunglasses up to her head. Thank God his clothes were on by then.

"Hey." I greet her awkwardly just as she did.

"I'm going to dinner with you guys." She informs Toby because he had a very confused look on her face.

"Doesn't Will live with you?"

"Yes, but so do a bunch of other guys." Rachel tries to change the subject.

"Yeah I think I know most of them." Toby stop..

"Alright let's go."

I turn around and start walking.

"Damn Alice, you've definitely gained a booty too since I've seen you." He whispers to me as Toby catches up to us. Our heels click on the floor as we make our way to the elevator.

A lady walks off the elevator as we get on.

"Love how elevators are just so awkward." Rachel says sarcastically.

I grab Toby's hand as we are getting off the elevator.

"I will meet both of you there." Rachel says as she searches for her keys.

We walk to my car. "I'm telling you I know Rachel from somewhere."

"Maybe you slept with her like every other girl." I say with sass even though I shouldn't have.

He gets in the drivers seat and I get in the passengers. "What the fuck? Where did this come from?"

"I'm sorry I shouldn't have said that."

He gives me a dirty look, but looks away soon.

"Toby, these shoes are killing my feet. Can we please stop by the apartment first." I beg.

"Do we not have a reservation?"

"We are running early anyways."

We pull into the parking lot.

"Will you come with me?" I ask.

"Why are you so needy today?" He gets out of the car.

"I'm going to just act like I didn't hear that." I walk upstairs with him.

I turn the door nob. As Toby enters the room people turn the lights on and yell "surprise!"

His smile is big. Carol gives him a hug. Four of the guys that were at Rachel's house that night are here. Let's just hope they don't recognize me.

"Alice!" One of the guy comes to give me a hug.

I weave my way through people, and act like I didn't see or hear him.

"Were you surprised?" I find Toby.

"Yes I was!" He yells over the loud music.

He kisses me and people start whistling or making some kind of noise. How does he know so many people?

"Hey Toby we are going to head out." Steve and Carol say their goodbyes.

"You just got here." He hugs them.

"Well we have to work Saturday, which is tomorrow." Carol giggles at herself.

I turn to search for Rachel. She is pouring alcohol.

As soon as Carol and Steve leave I find Toby again.

"Toby there is alcohol here!"

"It's ok just let people have their fun."

Someone puts a shot in Toby's hand.

"If you drink that I'm done with you forever." I spit.

"Don't worry I won't." He gives me a little smile.

I stomp over to Rachel.

"Hey Alice want one?" Words can't explain how mad I am.

"No this is Toby's party, and I'm hosting it, and we both got out of rehab not that long ago! So I suggest you help me either get this shit out of here, or help me tell people the party is ending early!" I freak.

"Woah Alice, calm down. We all know you and Toby can't have any." She tries to assure me.

"Then why did someone just put a shot in Toby's hand?"

"These are nonalcoholic." She lifts up some drink in a shot glass. "The bright colored cups are alcohol and the darker ones aren't." She gives me a smile. "Besides I knew no one would show up if there wasn't alcohol."

I turn around in search for Toby again. This is a lot more stressful than I thought it would be. I find him talking to some girl. She has red hair and... that's my sponsor.

"Why are you here?" I grab her shoulder.

"Hi nice to see you too Alice." She greets me in a very annoying way. Toby gives me a look. She has done a lot for me, and been kinda nice. "I am friends with Toby. I have told you that before." She smiles at me. "Toby was just telling me about how you are thinking about getting a job."

"What about it?" I cross my arms.

"Well I am coming on this side of town Thursday. If you want to come talk to some teenagers with me you can call me and I will tell you some things you would need to know." Why does she like me so much?

No way I am talking to teenagers. I remember how awful it was when people would try to help me with my problems. As I am about to deny her offer Toby gives me the 'be nice' look. "I'll think about it."

After a while, people start leaving.

"I will help you guys clean up." Rachel walks over to Toby and I sitting on the couch. "I don't want to make things awkward, but this needs to be said. You guys are seriously the cutest couple."

I giggle and look at Toby. He looks really tired. "Toby you go ahead and go to sleep." I stand up.

"No I'll help you guys. You did throw the party for me, so the least I could do is help." He stands up too.

"Babe, it's fine." I tell him.

"Alright.." He says hesitantly.
