One year and ten months later.
October 19th
"Guess who is turning twenty today!" Toby yells to wake me up. I lift my head from the coral colored pillow. When we bought the pillow case Toby and I argued whether it was coral or peach. "You are that's who!"
I get out of bed. "What are we doing today?" I go in the bathroom to brush my teeth.
"We are going to celebrate my birthday." His smile lights up the room.
"What? You already had a birthday this year." I walk over to him and wrap my arms around him.
"Oh yeah." He acts as if he forgot. I giggle and kiss him. We make our way into the kitchen. "What do you want to eat?" He asks looking through the pantry.
"Cupcakes!" I jump like a little girl.
"Good thing I'm the one that buys the food, or we wouldn't have any." He pulls out the box of cake batter. He sits it down on the counter. I pick it up and start reading the directions. Toby stands behind me reading them too. He starts to get out all the things we need.
I pour the cake batter in with what else he put in the bowl. I mix it all up. Toby has this really big smile without teeth. "What?" I ask still stirring.
"I'm just really happy." He shrugs his shoulders. I giggle and stick my finger in the cake batter, flinging it at him. He tries to dodge it. "Your going to regret that." He laughs and walks around the counter to come in the kitchen. He comes up behind me wrapping his arms around me. I squeal while he puts cake batter on my face. I turn around as soon as he lets go and dump it into his shirt. I didn't exactly mean to dump all of it, but it just made me laugh even more. "Now come give me a hug." He opens his arms.
"No." I back away still laughing.
"Why not? You love my hugs." He comes closer to me. I hit the back of the counter. I can't go anywhere. His arms squeeze me. After he lets go there is cake batter all over me.
"Toby!" I can't stop laughing.
"Alice!" He calls my name. "At least those are your pajamas, these were my clothes for the day."
"So much for cupcakes." I wash my hands off in the sink and my face. "I'm still hungry too." I add.
He walks out of our room buttoning up a blue shirt. "How about pop tarts?" He pulls two packages from the pantry. I shrug my shoulders. He puts them on a plate then scoots it over to me. I start with eating the edges first like I always do. I break off the edge and a diamond ring falls out. A silver, sparkly, beautiful diamond ring. My jaw drops and my eyes scale up to Toby.
He picks the ring off my plate and holds it out. "I love you Alice. I love you no matter what, no matter how angry I am at you, weather you are in your pajamas, or in the most beautiful dress, words can't describe how much I love you." My smile can't get big enough as the words escape his mouth. "Will you marry me?"
"Yes!" I nod my head and say at the same time. He slips the ring onto my finger.
