The room, like everything else in this palace, was foreign. The bed was high above the floor, like you were sleeping on a pedestal. The soft yellow blanket completely enveloped you. Sunlight had poked through the window and gave the interior a glowing hue. Compared to the room you had found Namjoon in, this was much simpler, spacious. Next to the delicate tea set was a vase of fresh daisies. You knew for sure that daisies were only abundance in Sacred Skies, so you wondered how those were able to get there. When you tried sitting up, you can vividly feel the stab wound. It burned, but not as painful as when the blade first cut through your skin. It had been so severe that you passed out. In accompaniment to how you were stuck in a cell with no food and water, it seemed that your body had shut down for a few days to recover.
A smile came to your face when the memories of his face when you told him you love him flooded your mind. His cheeks flushed red and his eyes sparkled with hope and joy. You wanted to see it again, and tell him you don't blame him for what happened. It broke your heart when you heard him talking poorly about himself, your mind wanted to break out of the prison of your body to console him. And your father was right, if you had to do this again, you wouldn't hesitate. Namjoon was meant to be a prince, to lead people in the right direction. He was the only one worthy enough to carry out a task like that. He had done so much for you, it would be the least you can do for him.
Fortunately, the gods had blessed the two of you, and you were alive and well. And soon, you would be reunited with him. Yet despite already have woken up and the urge in you to go look for Namjoon, your legs were still trembling and your eyes were heavy again. You decided that it would be best if you waited for him to come back, you know he would always come back for you. Then your body drifted back to slumber.
Outside by the garden, Namjoon walked aimlessly, holding his hand out and letting the flowers brush pass his fingertip gently. He spotted Lady Park tendering the bushes ahead. "Your Highness," she bowed once he approached.
"I see you found a hobby," he commented.
"I thought I'd make myself useful while everyone is busy with politics and rebuilding the city."
"I never got the chance to say thank you to you, for informing Commander Jeon about the guns, I think he handled it well."
She chuckled, "I don't think guns would scare him. He wouldn't even be flinch if a god stood before him." It was tender, the way she spoke of him.
"I apologize if I am intruding, but what is your plan now? Will you go back to Lord Jung's residence?"
"It is my duty after all, marrying him." she answered bitterly. "I will leave once Lady Song wakes up."
"There is no rush," Namjoon assured. "If Lady Song chooses to stay in the palace with me, I'm sure she could use a friend.""You don't know if she'll stay or not?" Lady Park asked, raising her eyebrows. The prince was much more naive than she thought, it was cute.
"I can't ask her to leave behind everything she knows and loves to be with me, that's too selfish."
"Your Highness, she loves you too, do not forget that," Lady Park remarked. "I am sure she would be glad to stay with you." After exchanging some more words, Lady Park went back to her quarter. Namjoon walked on some more, unsure what he should feel, until he found the person who could help him.
The river witch was unsure why the young prince had asked her to go back to your room. There was nothing she could do right now other than to just wait and pray for the best. Namjoon opened the door to your room, to find that you were still unconscious. He did a double take, the thought the blanket had rearranged itself but it could have been just his imagination. "Your Highness, what are you asking me to do?"
"I know you can't wake her up, but would it be possible to transfer my energy into her body?" he asked. It was an idea he had for awhile. He didn't have the knowledge or capacity to do that himself.
"There is a spell like that, but it's not a partial transfer." the witch explained. "It would take everything."
"But would that help her wake up?"
"If her will is strong enough, then yes."
Namjoon glanced at your sleeping state. "Then please do it."
His aunt blinked, "Did you not hear what I said?" she asked, raising her voice at his absurdity. "It would take all of your energy and life force. It would potentially kill you."
He nodded, he understood all the implications already. "It's okay. I am okay with that."
"Namjoon, this is crazy. You are the prince, you need to lead people to a better place, you cannot die. I will not let you!" she yelled. "We will continue to wait for her recovery."
"I cannot just wait around and watch the person I love suffer!" Namjoon snapped back. "This is a royal command. Please, just do it."
The witch hung her mouth opened, she couldn't imagine doing the dreadful spell. But her nephew was determined. "Okay." she whispered, "It's been nice knowing you, my nephew."
With all the commotions, your eyes slowly opened. Out of the corner of your eyes, you saw Namjoon's body was glowing, his eyes were shut as the witch mumbled something. You knew it couldn't be good, his face had drained of all color. If your body had been tired before, you forgot all about it as you ran to him and held his body. The witch stopped talking, and the glow dimmed.
Namjoon was confused when he felt the familiar warmth around his body, when he opened his eyes again, he was surprised at how closed your face was to him. "Y-Y/N?"
"What the hell are you doing?" you yelled. Namjoon still hasn't fully registered that you were awake and in front of him. "I can't believe you would give me your life." you continued. In your sleep, you could hear their voices. "You are never allowed to do that, ever, understood?"
He blinked, saying nothing. His eyes were wide and his lips parted. You wondered if he heard you at all. "You're awake," he finally said. "This isn't a dream."
"It's real," you assured. "I woke up earlier, but my body wouldn't work properly so I couldn't go find you. I will stay with you forever. Honestly, why would you do that for me?"
A smile erupted on his face as he pulled you closer, noses touching. "There's nothing I wouldn't do for you." He didn't wait another moment to connect your lips. It was a blazing ember that made you melt, your body arching against his.
The river witch rolled her eyes and closed the door gently behind her.
