After what seemed to be Namjoon's epiphany and he had forgiven himself, he sat on the bed by your head. Even sleeping, he found it remarkable that you had the same grace and beauty as when you're awake. Namjoon studied the colors of your cheek, delicate eyelashes, tranquil breathing, and the way sunlight bounced off your hair. He wouldn't mind spending a lifetime memorizing all the little details about you, it would certainly be worthwhile.
"You love her a lot, don't you?" your father asked. It made Namjoon blushed, He had gotten used to the teasing of Commander Jeon, Lady Park, and even his aunt. But when it came from your father, the family member who had a lot of saying in your future, Namjoon suddenly felt small.
"Um,"
"You can be honest with me," Lord Song added, "I can see how you look at her. It's the same look she used to give Seokjin when she thought he had done those things for her. How funny that it turned out to be you."
As bitter as it was, Namjoon laughed a little. "I don't know if she was glad of that or not." Namjoon thought back to the illusion Madam Li put him through. Despite knowing you wouldn't say those things, he does wonder if there was a possibility that you would asked his aunt to put the spell on the young master to make him fall in love with you. Namjoon didn't want to think of it, of course. Sometimes he would lie awake at night and think to himself if your confession was real or not or if it was just fear that manifest as love. Another illusion.
"Your Highness, I don't know the whole story, but I'm sure she loves you dearly." Lord Song stated. "And I think even before departing on you adventure, she must have felt something for you. I know my daughter, she wouldn't have done what she did for just anyone. Don't discount yourself too much, you are a prince after all."
"Right," Namjoon muttered.
Lord Song took it upon himself to play a little game. "And as the prince, I'm sure you now have anyone you want. Royal ministers' daughters, princesses of foreign land. I'm sure my daughter is just a small part in your lavish life...."
"That's not true!" Namjoon interrupted loudly. When he realized the volume of his voice and the confused smile on the doctor's face, he lowered his shoulders and look away. "What I mean is that I don't want anyone else. I have never wanted anyone else except for Lady Song. I have never dreamt of being with anyone except for her, and I have never dared to dream of being with her. For me, she is the only light, the only answer." The room was quiet, and Lord Song said nothing. Namjoon panicked, feeling that he overstepped his boundaries. "My apologies, Lord Song, I didn't mean to impose this on you."
"Do no apologize, Your Highness. I am relieved that it is you." he spoke calmly. "Now, I don't know what my daughter's answer will be, but I have no doubt that she will also choose you."
"And do you approve of me, Lord Song?" Namjoon asked.
"You might think my blessing is important, but truth be told, you have to ask my wife first." It was a disappointing answer to Namjoon, your father could see that. "But for what it's worth, I would be glad to have you as my son-in-law." he added, which caused Namjoon to beam uncontrollably.
"I really appreciate that, Lord Song."
"I'm sure you are tired from your meeting, Your Highness. Why don't you go rest?"
"Oh," Namjoon shook his head. "Not at all. I feel much better now that I'm here with her."
Your father chuckled, "Well, if that's the case, I think it would be fitting that you feed her the medicine while I go do my research."
"I would be glad to do that, are you sure you trust me?" Namjoon joked.
"I would hope that you won't break your future bride." your father answered. He handed Namjoon the medicine bowl and instructed him to go slowly. The Prince watch the doctor exit the room and turned his attention back to you.
"I can't wait to make you my bride," he smiled. "Only if you want to, of course. There might still be a chance that you'll choose someone else. But if you were the one to break my heart, I would be happy to accept that fate." It was the first time he was able to talk to you comfortably. He had been so scared and angry at himself before. Seeing the colors of your cheeks, he felt that you were slowly getting better, and it was as if his own body was reviving. It reminded him of when he first fell in love with you, he had watched you from a great distance. Even when you two were physically next to each other, he knew that your thoughts and heart had been with Seokjin's. He never minded, as long as he saw your smile.
It felt strange now, being next to you, and knowing there's a high chance your heart belongs to him. For so long, he wanted something to call his own, you made him selfish and he wouldn't want it any other way. After feeding you the medicine, he took your hand again. "I know you don't want me to say this, but you're too reckless, you should have just let her stab me. It kills me to see you like this, please wake up."
His eyes burned, as teardrops plummeted down onto your hand. "You have to wake up, you have to see how your anecdote is helping people live again. You need to see how this city is regaining its glory, I couldn't have done it without you. You need to wake up and take the credit for this." He smiled bitterly as he kissed your palm, "I have never loved myself, I have never thought that I would amount to anything. My life was never stable. But you, God, I love you so much that the pieces just fell in place and I feel like I can do anything. I love you so much I forgot what hating myself felt like. So please, please wake up."
His eyes dulled a little when he didn't see anything happen. He had figured that much, not everything is magic. With one last kiss on your forehead, he headed for the door and closed it. After a few seconds, the tear stains on your hand began to glow in intense yellow. The warmth seeped through your skin and flooded your body. Love, you thought, his love. Gathering your strength, your eyes lifted.
