When I woke up the next morning I almost just wanted to roll over and just go back to sleep. I didn't want to go to school today. I had a pit in my stomach that made me feel nauseous.
"Hun! Get out of bed, you don't want to be late again." My mom yelled at me.
I dragged myself out of bed and walked downstairs to where my mom was sitting at the table eating a banana and drinking a diet coke. I took two pieces of bread out of our breadbox and put them in the toaster for breakfast.
I walked over to my mom and took her Diet Coke and began drinking it.
"Hey Noah, go get your own if you are going to be drinking my Diet Coke." My mom took her drink back.
I walked to our fridge and got a Diet Coke out of the fridge and drank it slowly.
"Are you okay Noah?" My mom asked me.
"Tired."
"I'm sorry hun." My mom ruffled my hair as I chugged the diet coke.
"It's not your fault." I mumbled.
My mom kissed my forehead and I got up to go get ready for school. When I was ready for school, my mom was waiting for me at the door. She was holding the car keys and I tried to snatch them from her but she refused to let them go.
"If you want to drive then we are taking your car."
I rolled my eyes and walked out to our car.
"I can't wait for you to get your license." My mom sighed.
"You and me both." I agreed as I slid into the passenger's seat.
My mom was quiet when we were driving to school. It was very strange because my mom was never silent.
"What's wrong." I asked her as we pulled into the parking lot.
"Nothing is wrong." My mom put on a cheery smile.
What is with all the girls in my life with fake smiles?
"No something is wrong. What's going on mom?"
"You need to go to school. We will talk about this later." My mom rubbed my shoulder.
As I stepped out of the car I decided I needed to go to the library. No one would look for me there and I needed the peace and quiet this morning. I don't know why but everyone is so down today but their bad moods are killing the positive atmosphere I had been trying to create for today. Today was the first day that Shiloh was going to be sitting with me and I felt nervous. We had been sitting next to each other on the bleachers for lunch and I finally convinced her to come sit with my friends. I was really nervous. I tried to make this day seem like it was going to be a good one but I just had this pit in my stomach. I wasn't sure if I could actually go through with this.
I rounded the halls into the library and when I got there I sighed in relief. It was calming because everything in the library seemed to be going ten times slower than outside. I walked into the Fiction section of the library and pulled out a random book. I flipped to the inside cover and began reading the book jacket.
As it turned out it was Science Fiction and I hadn't really cared for the type but this book seemed interesting. I flipped to the first page and began reading.
I have to admit, the author did great. I seemed to be entranced by that book from the start. They successfully painted a whole new side of the universe where Colonies have formed and Generation ships are coming. I lost complete track of time until I got the strange sense someone was watching me.
