On Friday nights Noah and I would sit on his bedroom floor playing a variety of different card games. When the Sun set I could tell that Noah had other plans for the evening than playing Slapjack. He was sitting on the floor with a mischievous smirk on his face.

"What exactly are you planning?" I asked him as I joined him on the floor.

"Since our reintroduction with Jessica, she has gotten us into a quaint little house party this weekend."

"Quaint?"

"The whole school isn't going to be there if that's what you're asking." Noah explained as he walked into his closet.

"I don't really have clothes for parties." I shuffled uncomfortably.

Noah had gone to a few parties across the years. He wasn't the kid who attended every party and got wasted at each and every one, but he would go to one or two a year to let go. He hadn't asked me to go to any of them with him before this so I found this a little odd. However I guess it would be a little odd for him to go to the party by himself and leave me at home. It would be a little rude too.

Reluctantly I opened my suitcase and dug through what I had. I pulled out dark jeans, a button up black shirt and a black suit jacket. Should be good enough. I walked out of the room and ran directly into Maeve McKlaren.

"Oh, I'm sorry dear." Maeve apologized seeing as I had dropped my clothes.

"No, I should have watched where I was going."

"Big plans tonight Carter," She asked as I picked up my clothes from off the floor.

I headed into the bathroom, "I guess you could say that."

"Where are you two going?"

I hesitated for a second as I concocted a lie, "Noah and I are going on a date."

"Together?"

"A double date. Sorry."

"Alright, don't stay out too late." Maeve smiled as I closed the bathroom door.

I felt kind of bad lying to Maeve. My heart pounded in my chest and my hands held a little tremor. If you were looking, it was quite obvious I was up to something. When I was dressed I walked back into Noah's room where he was sitting in a white polo shirt and dark grey jeans. I messed around with my hair a little bit until it looked appropriate for a party.

"While we were in the car, I couldn't stop myself from tapping my fingers against my knees. I guess I was a little nervous. I didn't really know what to expect.

"Is the great Noah Carter nervous?" Noah looked at my hands bouncing away.

"Shush, I have never done this before."

"Yeah, I've been your friend for a majority of our lives, I know this. Just be confident. As long as you don't let on that you are nervous, you'll have a good time." Noah pulled into the drive.

Already the house was booming with music. There were people sitting on the porch with red solo cups either making out or looking like they were having long philosophical discussions with one another. The others were just smoking weed.

The smoke hung thick in the air as we walked up to the house.

"Carter, you aren't planning on drinking tonight, right?" Noah asked me.

"I guess so."

"Great! It's been too long since I've been drunk and I'm planning on having so much fun I don't remember it." Noah smiled as we opened the door and walked in.
