"Hey Mom?" I started.
We were in the car ride back to Noah's house but it was nearly time to go over to Shiloh's house and finally have that conversation with her.
"What's up Noah?"
"Do you mind driving me to Shiloh's house?"
"Are you sure hon?"
"Yeah, I've got to talk to her about what we are going to do." I insisted.
My mom nodded once and changed her directions. We turned out of Noah's neighborhood and onto the main road.
"Mom?"
"Yes?" She responded again.
"What are we going to do?" I asked quietly.
My mom sighed and kept her eyes on the road.
"Oh my beautiful boy, what we are going to do is you are going to come home with me to Oregon. I'll fly home like I originally planned on Monday and you'll stay here in California to take all your exams and say goodbye to whomever you want to say goodbye to and I'll drive down to get you on Thursday and I can help you put this behind you in Oregon. Does that sound good?" She asked me.
I stared out at the road. This was all a lot sooner than I had expected. I had thought I had one more month in California but obviously that party threw a curveball at me that I wasn't expecting. Is it really such a bad thing that you are moving early? Not really.
I guess Noah and I already have plans to see each other this summer. He's planning on visiting me in Oregon and Dylan, Tanner and Trev can tag along too. I'm sure mom wouldn't mind too much, after all she's practically had a hand in raising them. I'm sure I can visit California sometimes too.
Maybe a little later though. California is beginning to leave a sour taste in my mouth. Plus, we can find new things to do in Oregon as well. While we were eating ice cream my mom was telling me about all the things she had done in Oregon on the weekends.
Apparently my mom had made a friend in our church that was showing her around. They had been to a lake that was about 30 minutes away from our house. My mom had shown me pictures of the lake and I had to say it was beautiful. It wasn't the ocean but it was still pretty. Mom and her new friend had done a lot of hiking. I wouldn't have thought that my mom would enjoy hiking but she has really taken a liking to it.
"So Mom, what else have you been up to in Oregon recently?" I asked, trying to lighten the quiet.
"I met up with a couple of old friends recently."
"Oh really? Who?" I was thinking it was my mom's last best friend.
Those two were really close for a couple years but I think they lost touch when she moved to Colorado a couple years ago.
"You wouldn't know them, they were friends with your father and I when we were in highschool."
That kind of shocked me. My mom hardly ever talked about what happened in highschool and even when she did the stories never went past her Sophomore year.
It struck me kind of odd because she started dating my dad in their Junior year and I'm sure someone has asked her how she got together with her husband. I kind of wanted to know more about them.
"Who were they?"
"Um," my mom paused, "Well, their names were Quinn and Carson Lancaster."
"They must have been really close to you, you never see anyone from your past." I mention.
