It was finally the weekend. I feel like we had the longest week ever. I was studying with Elie and I was very happy about that but it's surprising how much math wears you out. The semester is almost over, three more weeks and so all our teachers are cramming for exam weeks. You know how teachers are always getting on students cases about how we always wait until the last minute to do things like projects and homework and things like that. Well teachers do the same thing except with actual teaching and so in the weeks leading up to exam week we are stressed out of our minds. This exam will tell me if I can get into Shiloh's math class so I really have to do well on the Algebra Two Exam.
Anyway besides being out of school for the weekend I am also going out for lunch with Shiloh and everyone. Payton and Dylan cancelled last minute because they both caught some sort of flu. I feel bad for them, the flu is absolutely awful this year.
I got in my car and drove to the diner we were supposed to meet at. Noah was the only one there so far. Things with him haven't been necessarily amazing. We are still awkward with one another since I almost punched him. I sat down next to him and he smiled awkwardly at me. I smiled back and we sat in silence
"Listen, Carter, I'm sorry, I know you like Shiloh, I shouldn't have kissed her like that." Noah apologized awkwardly
"No this is my fault, I'm sorry for freaking out on you. You can kiss whoever you want. Shiloh, she doesn't know a thing about how I feel about her so we definitely aren't exclusive." I winced, even to me this sounded sad.
"But you want to be?"
"Oh god, yes."
"Do you love her?"
"Yes."
"Are you in love with Shiloh?"
"I-" I didn't know so I didn't respond.
"Carter, I think she likes you back. You would have to be a complete and utter idiot to not shoot your shot." Noah patted my back.
"But she's my best friend."
"Ouch"
"One of my best friends. I don't want it to be weird between the two of us if she doesn't like me."
"It's only weird if you make it weird."
Noah and I sat in uncomfortable silence while waiting for the others. When the door opened we both looked up to see Shiloh bounding in to sit across from us. I stifled a laugh because with her combover hair cut and beanie she looked like a skater girl.
"What?" She frowned.
"Oh nothing."
"Low blow, Carter, now you got to tell me."
"Sorry Shi, I don't have to do zilch." I smiled
When the door opened again we saw a girl enter that I had never seen before. She looked foreign and a little confused. She searched the diner and finally set eyes on Shiloh. She bounded over to our little table.
"Ciao! Devi essere Carter e Noah. è bello incontrarti. Mi chiamo Elena Violeta." She smiled at us.
"Evie, chill with the Italian. These two don't speak a word." Shiloh scolded the woman in front of us.
"I'm sorry can you repeat what you said in English?" I asked her.
"I said, 'Hello! You must be Carter and Noah. It's nice to meet you. My name is Elena Violeta or Evie for short.'"
"Shiloh do you know Evie here?" Noah asked her.
"I do, Evie just moved here from Italy. She's in my math class."
