Today we had the day off from school for Halloween. I decided that I would hang out with Noah because I hadn't done that in a while with only him. I had missed my best friend. I called him over although I was quite surprised he had picked up because usually he was busy with his girlfriend on days off. When I called he picked up immediately and when I invited him over he practically jumped at the idea. I had called to invite him over at 11:00 and he was at my house at 11:10.
He walked in and appeared to be happy but something was wrong. I don't know, maybe it was the way he carried himself but I could tell something was wrong. I invited him inside and my mom walked into the living room carrying a plate of cookies.
"I made sugar cookies so if you boys want any just ask." My mom smiled as she allowed the smell to waft around the room.
I swear my mom was one of the best cooks I knew. Her cookies ruined me. I couldn't eat anyone else's cookies because they didn't taste right to me. Noah didn't say anything and just followed my mom and the cookies into the kitchen. When the had cooled off a bit Noah took five of the cookie sheet and walked upstairs.
My mom didn't mind because we had known Noah so long that he was practically family and we weren't going to hold it against him if he was having a bad day. I grabbed two cookies, thanked her and walked back upstairs where I found Noah lying on my bed staring absentmindedly up at my ceiling while eating his pile of cookies.
"Hey Noah, want to explain why you are eating half the cookie sheet and having an existential crisis on my bed?" I asked as I jumped onto the bed.
Noah looked over at me and shrugged.
"Alright that isn't a good enough answer." I stole his pile of cookies.
"Hey! Give those back."
"No. What's going on?"
"Give back those cookies Carter!" Noah yelled.
"Tell me what's going on!"
"Fine!"
I handed him back the cookies and Noah got up and ran.
"What the heck Noah! Get back here."
Noah only had a couple seconds head start on me and so I ran after him. Before long I was on his tail and tackled him onto the couch.
"What in heaven is going on up there?" My mom yelled.
"Carter get your fat butt off of me." Noah complained.
"Tell me what's wrong."
"Fine."
I raised an eyebrow at him.
"If you run I'll tackle you again and this time it won't be on the couch."
I got up off of Noah and he sat down on the couch.
"Boys?" My mom asked.
"What is it?"
"Aria's cheating on me!" Noah yelled.
"What!!!" My mom bellowed from the kitchen.
She to us and jumped on the couch and cuddled Noah.
"I'm sorry baby, I know how much you loved her." She hugged him.
"Its okay Tammy. It's probably my fault anyway." Noah sighed.
"Noah no matter what you did, it was still Aria's decision to cheat." My mom rubbed his cheek.
"I should have paid more attention to her. It's my fault." Noah cried into my mom's shoulder.
"No, no its not Noah. It's never your fault." My mom soothed him.
