Put Your Hands in Mine Tonight

I have been dreading this day for a while. I needed to get through this but it felt like I couldn't. Today was Friday. The day that Shiloh would go on her date. I don't know why but I feel like she is betraying me. We aren't dating or anything but it hurts. It feels like she is leaving me behind and it is the worst feeling in the world.

I have been moping pretty much the entire morning. I keep waiting for a text message from Shiloh but it hasn't come. I told Elie what was happening today and she went out and bought Ben and Jerry's for Bryant, herself, and me. We spent the day sitting on the couch with our pints of Ice Cream and binged watched any movie we could find.

I learned a lot about Elie's new life. Apparently she is doing pretty well for herself. She is majoring in Creative Writing in college. She has a best friend named Brooke and her friend Celeste is marrying her older brother, my cousin, Jacob.

I also learned quite a bit about Bryant too. He is quite a bit older than Elie but at least he is a good guy. He works in the hospital as a nurse practitioner so that's good for him.

My mom also told me how she ended up taking these two in for a while. Apparently Bryant was in her hospital seeing if there were any jobs available and she bumped into him quite literally. My mom ended up dropping her spreadsheets and Bryant dropped his phone. When he was helping her pick up the spreadsheets she saw that his screensaver was Elie. She, like my mom does, pried and ended up finding out that this was indeed her niece which she hadn't seen in years. She ended up inviting the two of them to stay with us for a little bit.

Bryant, Elie and I hadn't gotten off the couch since Elie got back with the ice cream. As Mission Impossible Two was ending I got a text message from Shiloh. I picked up my phone from off the floor.

Shiloh: Carter can you come over? I'm about to go on a date and I'm freaking out!! :(

I panicked. I threw my phone at Elie and she read the text message and visibly winced.

"What should I do Elle?"

"What's going on?" Bryant asked.

Elie handed Bryant my phone and he read the text message.

"Noah, I don't know how to tell you this but it sounds like you are in the friendzone." Bryant handed my phone back to me.

"Duh, that's the whole problem." Elie informed him.

"What should I do in your professional opinion?" I asked the two of them because they were more experienced at this then I was.

"I say you should go over there. It might secure your place in the friendzone but you could still have her fall in love with you slowly. It's better than for her to hate you when you aren't there for her." Bryant shrugged.

"Yeah, I agree with him Noah." Elie told me.

"Okay, I guess I'm going over to Shiloh's house. One question, can I borrow your rental? My car broke and I can't get it fixed until my mom gets her next paycheck."

"Sure." Bryant shrugged as he threw the keys at me.

Me: On my way

Shiloh: Thanks, youre a lifesaver <3

....

I drove over to Shiloh's house and she was waiting outside. I got out of the car and walked over to her.

"Are you okay Shi?" I asked as I held her arms to stop her panicked pacing.

"Yeah, sorry to interrupt your day like that but I didn't know who else to call." Shiloh apologized.
