Kabanata XLIII: The Rainbow After the Storm
ZANAYA
I stopped my car at the place where he currently stays. The place where I wouldn't even thought of visiting, but here am I, inside the car, contemplating whether to get out or drive away and hide again.
However, I kept on reminding myself for how many times that there was no room for cowardice. I needed to face my past so that I could move on towards my future.
The things that happened to me a year ago were incomparable. It was an experience that was worth sharing as it had impacted my whole life to become the person I've become today. Life had made me tougher. It made me realized that truth always prevail no matter how much effort we exerted just to hide it. I've learned that trust was such a precious thing you could give to anyone. Trust was fragile too. It's delicate. If it was broke once, it would be hard to glue the broken pieces together.
I let out a sigh. This is it.
I pushed the door and got out of the car. Now, I am face to face with the home of the criminals.
I slowly walked towards the entrance and made my way to the visitors area.
And there I saw him, ready to confront me.
"Being out behind the bars doesn't suit you, kuya," I said as I drag a mono block chair and sat on it, facing the star of the day.
"But wearing that orange shirt really looks good on you," I added and smirked.
He laughed humorlessly and stared at me.
"Well that deep scar on your cheeks made you uglier," he counteracted.
Kaagad na nawala ang ngisi sa labi ko dahil sa sinabi niya.
"It was because of you. You almost killed me, kuya, how could you do that?"
Millions of needles pierced through my heart as I said this. Just thinking about what he did made me want to vomit because it made me sick in my stomach. I never thought I actually trusted him with my whole life.
"Reign, don't mention about the past anymore. You're still alive. You should be thankful," sarcasm was lacing his tone.
"Ha! So I should thank you then? You ruined me. You almost made me like you!"
"Like what? A criminal?" he asked, pain was evident on his face, and for a moment, I almost melted.
"Oh come on, I am a monster Reign and your family made me this way. Especially the family of your fiancée," he added.
"Don't mention him here."
"Why? You're affected? You actually didn't expect that he will also betray you? How pitiful, Reign. How pitiful."
"Stop."
He just laughed. "I was just making fun of you, my dear cousin. Just like the old times."
Just like the old times...
I missed those days, if only I could turn back time. If only those days would never fade, we could have lived a normal life.
"You know what, kuya, I missed those times," I admitted.
I watched how his facial expression changes. Longing could be seen in his eyes.
"Those days when we were laughing so hard because you fell on the mud as we ran and played under the rain, and those days when you would fight the bad kids just to save me from them," I paused then saw him smile a bit. "You know, I learned that from you--saving someone else from misery, from problems... and all."
