Kabanata XXXIV: She's also One of Them

Sakay ng van nila Zanaya, sabay-sabay naming pinagmasdan ang traffic sa bintana ng sasakyan. Actually, kasama nga rin namin ngayon ang presidente ng student council na pinsan ni Zanaya-- si Nico.  Maririnig ang walang tigil na pag-busina ng mga sasakyan dahil sa matinding trapiko na akala mo'y hindi na uusad.

"Dave, sa tingin mo totoo 'yung sinabi ni Ms. Dimalanta na wala na ang dating JDC, at mga kaedad natin ang nag-take over nito?" biglang tanong ni Arya.

Napatingin kaming lahat kay Dave na kanina pa abala sa pagkalikot sa telepono niya. Iniiwasan nga rin niyang madikit kay Zanaya na katabi niya ngayon.

He looked up and shot us a glare.

"Hoy! Nagtatanong lang sila," sabi ng katabi niya na halatang iritado rin.

He sighed before answering, "I think that's possible. He might have retired or dead."

Indeed. Baka nga nagretiro na ito dahil sa kanyang gulang, ngunit imposible kasi eh. Is he dead? Then, wala na kaming poproblemahin. But then, who was behind all of these?

"Posible bang kilala siya ng tatay mo?" si Zanaya naman ang nagtanong. "I mean, Ms. Dimalanta said that your father was involved in her fiancé's death, and so was JDC. So, they might know each other. Maybe they were acquaintances before, and now they're enemies."

"Actually, I was about to discuss that with you," Dave answered.

We became attentive because of what Dave said. Did he confront his father about this?

Since traffic naman, maaari naming pag-usapan ang tungkol sa case ni JDC dito sa van. I am sure Nico won't mind since he'd been busy making phone calls.

"I asked my father about Ms. Dimalanta's fiancé this morning. He admitted that he knew him, but didn't mention that he was part of his execution. He did mention, however that JDC was part of it," sabi niya.

"What?!"

Nagulat kami nang sumabat si Nico, ngunit napansin naming hindi pala kami ang kausap niya.

"Don't mind him. He's always busy," wika ni Zanaya na tinutukoy ang pinsan niyang nakasakay sa front seat.

"Anyway, papa told me that he knew JDC, but he's dead already."

"Wait! Patay na si JDC?" Arya asked slowly.

I couldn't also grasped this piece of information. How come? If he's dead, then bakit nanggugulo pa rin siya? I don't believe in ghost, and it was not the right time to believe now. That would be crazy.

"He was killed. Papa saw it with his two eyes, that's why he was wondering how did that JDC managed to create chaos," dagdag pa ni Dave.

"So, somebody has took over the management of the organization," Zanaya concluded with a nod.

"That's why we need to go--" Dave cut me off before I could finish my statement.

"We will discuss that at the headquarters later," sabi niya.

Tinignan naman siya ni Zanaya at nagtatanong ang mga mata nito. "Why can't we discuss it here, we have a lot of time," she insisted.

Napansin ko ang pagsulyap ni Dave sa harap; sa gawi kung saan nakaupo si Nico. At that moment, alam ko na ang ipinahihiwatig ng kilos niya. He didn't want the president to know about our plan.
