It had been a week since I'd ended it with Calum and I hadn't seen him at work, which I was grateful for. I sighed as I sat at my computer, absentmindedly looking at the photo of us that sat on my desk. Tears pricked at my eyes."You did the right thing, honey." I turned my head to see Cassie looking at me sympathetically.
"Then why does it feel like the worst decision I've ever made?" I choked.
"Because the best decisions are often disguised as the most painful ones." She shrugged. I sighed and looked down.
"Do you think part of the reason that he's not been here since we broke up is because of me?" I asked quietly.
"I wish I knew, honey." She sighed. I returned it and gulped.
"Maybe you should check on him." I looked at her.
"What? Why?" I scoffed.
"This has never happened before. He's been through, like, ten girlfriends since I've been working here and he's never not been in work after breaking up with one of them." She spoke.
"Also, you've still got your job." She stated.
"What does that have to do with our break-up?" I asked.
"He's always fired his assistant after they've broken up, that's the way he works. But you're still here. You mean something to him, honey, something that the others didn't. You're different." She spoke.
"It's probably not even related, I'm just being selfish." I shrugged.
"Maybe, maybe not. The only way to know is for you to check on him." She encouraged. I sighed and looked at my watch.
"I've got a bus to catch." I mumbled as I stood up.
"See you tomorrow, honey." Cassie called. I smiled at her as I stepped into the lift and it went down. I walked to the bus but stopped. I sighed. I can't believe I'm about to do this, I thought as I stuck my arm out, hailing a taxi. I gulped, my heart almost beating through my chest as I climbed in.
"29 Seacrest Road, please." I spoke. After thirty minutes, the taxi stopped in front of Calum's villa and I climbed out. The sun was setting, causing lines of pink and orange to dance in the sky. I slowly walked towards the door and knocked. No answer. I knocked again. Still nothing.
"Calum?" I called out as I turned the doorknob and walked in. I gasped at what I saw. His villa was completely trashed, with pieces of glass, crockery and other sharp pieces littering the floor.
"Calum!" I yelled. Still nothing. My breath hitched as I saw spots of blood on the floor, leading to the bedroom. I followed them and gasped at the sight.
"Oh, god no." I choked.
