The dad - Luke (part 5)

I opened my eyes and sighed at the time. Six-forty-five am. Three hours until Luke's flight left. I rolled over and saw Luke already awake and looking at me.

"You haven't told her yet." I mumbled. He sighed and shook his head as he pulled me closer.

"I know. I'll tell her when she wakes up." He spoke.

"She's not going to like it." I warned.

"I know." He sighed again as he rolled onto his back.

"Speak of the devil." I chuckled as I saw the doorknob start to turn. The door opened and Liz toddled in.

"Morning, princess." Luke smiled.

"Morning, daddy." She returned as she climbed up onto the bed and took her usual spot sitting on Luke's chest.

"Luke." I spoke. He sighed and looked at me before sitting up and looking at Liz.

"I have something to tell you, baby girl." He smiled gently at her as he moved a strand of sandy blonde hair out of her face. She nodded as she smiled at him.

"You know that daddy is in a band with your uncles." He started. She nodded again.

"Daddy has to go away for a couple of months, okay?" he spoke. She looked at me.

"What? Why?" she asked in a tiny voice.

"Your uncles and I are going on a tour for our band. I'm leaving in a few hours." He admitted. I sighed as I saw tears pooling in her eyes.

"Are you coming back?" she choked.

"Of course I am, princess! I'm only going to be gone for a couple of months, then I'll be back for a few weeks. It'll only last a year, okay?" he reassured. She looked at him.

"I'll always come back to you and mummy, okay? I'll never leave you two." He reassured, wiping away a tear that had fallen from her eye.

"Okay." She nodded before wrapping her arms around his neck. He sighed and looked at me.

"She'll be okay." I mouthed. He sighed and nodded.

Luke opened the door and pulled on his jacket. I stood with Liz at the door as he got ready, her small hand cupped in mine. He turned to Liz and got down on one knee before looking at her.

"Be good for mummy, okay? I'll be back before you know it." He promised before engulfing her in a tight hug, her small arms returning it as much as she could. He sighed as he let her go and stood up. He took my face and pressed our lips together as my arms curled around his waist. He broke the kiss and hugged me.

"I love you and Liz so much. I'll be back soon." He spoke.

"We love you too. She'll be okay." I nodded. He returned it before grabbing his bag and walking towards the door.

"I love you both. I'll see you soon." He smiled before shutting the door.
