I stood in the kitchen, making Liz's favourite meal of ravioli. I tasted the sauce."Nice." I nodded to myself as I put the spoon back. Suddenly, Luke rushed into the kitchen.
"Which tie?" he asked, holding up a dog tie and a checkered tie.
"Why did you pick those two?" I asked.
"The dog tie was Liz's favourite when she was little, but she got me the checkered tie last Christmas." He sighed.
"Why are you so nervous? It's only a meal with your daughter." I chuckled.
"Yeah, and with that boyfriend of hers." He grimaced.
"Hey, we're talking about Noah here, one of your best friend's sons." I sighed.
"Yeah, but he broke her heart once, what's to stop him from doing it again?" he mumbled.
"Well, he knows that you'll kill him if he does it again, that could help." I joked.
"Besides, he really loves her." I reassured.
"He better." Luke muttered. Suddenly, the doorbell rang.
"Dog tie." I smiled before passing Luke and opening the door.
A while later, we were sitting around the table, eating and talking.
"Uncle Luke, that's a very interesting tie." Noah spoke.
"Yeah, it was Liz's favourite when she was little." Luke smiled.
"I remember sitting on his lap and tying it for him." Liz chuckled. I smiled at the memory.
"Mum, Dad, we actually need to tell you something." Liz spoke nervously. Luke and I exchanged glances before turning back to them.
"Is something wrong, princess?" Luke asked.
"No, no actually, I've never been happier." She chuckled.
"So, what is it?" I asked. She looked at Noah before putting her left hand on the table to reveal a ring on her wedding finger. My eyes widened.
"We're engaged." Liz smiled.
"Oh my god, babe, that's amazing!" I laughed as I took her hand.
"Such a stunning ring." I smiled. I looked at Luke to see him also smiling.
"You're happy about this?" I asked.
"Of course. They love each other and they're happy." He nodded.
"I'm so happy for you." He smiled as he shook Noah's hand.
"Thank you, uncle Luke. I didn't like the idea of asking her without your blessing, but she said that it would be alright." He nodded.
"Of course." Luke smiled before hugging Liz.
