Steven + Connie Falling for my Bestfriend

Operation Boyfriend

So I'm dumb and realized from this takes place in May and not early September from _Rosewaters_  , imnotreallyawattpa, and stevenwritesfanfic. So thank you.

The car ride home from violin practice was awkward. Connie's parents talked to her as if it was a health class.

Once home she flopped on her bed getting ready to sleep until getting a call from Steven.

"Hey Strawberry."

"Hey Steven."

"I have a surprise for you tomorrow!" Steven says excitedly.

"Then I can't wait!" Steven felt as though he could feel her smile from the phone.

They chatted normally until Steven asks:

"Hey, why do you wanna work on the gem thing? For real?"

"To help Gneiss."

"Hmm." He says suspiciously. "Well, who are you gonna test it on?"

"We haven't thought that far, but probably me."

"You wanna become a gem?" Steven asks confused.

"Well I don't want to, it's in the name of science. Anyway, I have to go study, bye Biscuit." Connie says thinking of an excuse to hang up.

"...Bye."

She didn't think of it as a complete lie because she did need to study. So she decided to start studying to stop the lie.

She didn't realize how late it was until getting a message from Alex at 1:09. After briefly consoling Alex she went to sleep needing her energy for her day tomorrow.

School
"Connie!" Alex says snapping her out of her half-awake daze.

"Y-yea?" She answers.

"Did you hear what I said?" Alex says sighing from Connie shaking her head.

"I was saying, it's operation boyfriend." Alex says happily.

"Honestly, Daniel breaking up with me was good, I need a guy in the flesh ya know?" He asks.

"But yea, this is perfect for us. We'll both be looking for boyfriends. In case it doesn't work out with Steven." Alex continues not giving Connie time to answer.

"Heh, I guess that sounds fun being cupid for you." Connie says laughing lightly.

The class started and seemed to be off to a good start until the teacher announced the last two grades for her. A group project and the final, both weighing 40% in the grade book.

Connie and Alex high fived but their happiness was short-lived as the teacher started talking to Angelica.

"No Angelica, you and Kayla need good grades on this project. Kayla you're working with Connie."

"I'm working with Connie." Alex says annoyed.

"Well, now your working with Angelica." The teacher announces as the bell rang.

"This sucks." Alex complains.

"Seriously." Connie agrees.

Steven's house
Connie gets dropped off from her parents and starts walking to Steven's house, happy her school day was over with. As she approaches his house she sees him walking towards her.

"Hey Steven." Connie greets.

"Hey Strawberry." Steven says giving her a tight hug.

He holds onto her waist kissing her cheek. Connie blushes deeply about to back up when she realizes Steven started floating.

She laughs and says, "Steven your floating. What's got you so happy? Is it my surprise?"

Steven blushes from embarrassment and hovers down, staying close to her. He looks at her for a few moments before starting to talk.

"Oh, nothing... I might have just asked your parents yesterday if you can date." Steven says proudly, letting her waist go.

"Really? That must be why they were acting so weird." Connie says piecing her parent's behavior together.

"So Miss Knight..." Steven says holding out his hand.

"Of course." The smiling girl answers before Steven has any time to ask, grabbing his hand.

Steven pulls her in and Connie leans to kiss him but felt a finger on her lips instead.

"Nope. The same rules apply to me." Steven says playfully bopping her nose.

"What rules?" Connie asks backing up blushing embarrassed.

"What if my dear family- forbade me from dating. I can't kiss someone I'm not dating." Steven says dramatically walking away.

"Steven, Garnet is the embodiment of love. Your father dropped everything for a mysterious woman. There's no way-" Connie started until Steven cut her off.

"I guess you'll just have to ask. After practice. I'll get everyone there on time- and your parents already know you'll be a bit late!" Steven says kissing her forehead.

Connie mumbles flustered and annoyed knowing it was payback.

"Good luck~" Steven says walking towards the boardwalk.

Connie rolls her eyes smiling and enters Steven's house. Even with her conversation with Steven she had around 5 minutes to spare and got dressed quickly in time to meet Pearl.

After practice Connie totally forgot about having to ask Steven's family. So when she warped back and everyone was sitting on the couch looking at her, she died a bit.

She wasn't worried they'd say no but it's a bit intimidating. She gave herself a mini pep-talk and sat on the floor in front of the tv for them to see her.

"Hey guys..." She starts awkwardly.

Garnet's smile gave her the confidence to finish. "I would like all of your permission to start dating Steven."

There was a pretty quick response.

Greg chuckled and said it was to be expected.

Amethyst said her children were growing up.

Garnet's already big smile got larger.

And Pearl shrugged smiling but added not to have children which Greg seconded.

"So... where is Steven?" Connie asks.

In a second Steven entered the door.

"You called."

Everyone laughed and Connie pulled him outside.

"Want something?" Steven asks winking.

Connie laughs and walks ahead on the sand.

"So it's a race you want?" He asks running in front of her.

"Wait- no fair!" Connie says running after him.

After running for a bit not hearing Connie he looked back to see how far ahead he was from her.

"Connie?"
