"And you have your jacket?" Dr. Maheswaran asks.
"Yes, ma'am. I have everything!" Amina says happily. She was very excited to finally get out of the house.
"I can't believe I'm saying this but I'd feel better with Connie staying the night with you."
"Trust me mom, Steven is the definition of safe," Connie says trying to soothe her mother. Whether the statement was exactly true or not didn't matter, because it would set the doctor's mind at ease.
"Just the other day he turned into a giant!" Priyanka says as her hands go from a cross position to up in the air.
Connie stays silent and awkwardly opens the door for her parents and Amina to leave.
"You're not coming too?" Doug asks trying to ease the tension.
"Uhhh... I'll stay here and study." Connie says her arms finding comfort crossed between each other.
"You should take a break Connie, I think you're pushing yourself too far. Besides I'm sure you'll be happy to see Steven."
"I just saw him today, it's fine really."
Dr. Maheswaran didn't crack and gave Connie a glare telling her to get inside the car.
So Connie ended up in the car driving to Beach City. She knew this round trip would take around an hour, which could have been simplified to around 5 minutes with Lion.
Her parents, kind of, understand gem stuff and know Lion is a quicker way of transportation. This was because they wanted to talk to her, which was almost never good.
"We're here." Snapped her out of her worry and Connie turned to help Amina out of her car seat, trying to get this over with.
"Thanks," Amina says jumping out of the car.
"Thank you." She corrects clearing her throat remembering the Maheswarans were still there.
"I'll get Amina set up," Connie says closing the car door behind her and holding the small girl's hand.
They were quickly greeted by the gems and Amina leaped into Pearl's arms.
"I'll set this down and be on my way," Connie says to the gems but she couldn't really tell if they could hear from their chatting with Amina.
"Hey Steven," Connie says entering his room. He looked happy, which was good, maybe it could be something she didn't have to worry about soon.
"Hey Connie." He says returning the greeting and takes Amina's bag from her hand.
"You can tell your parents we'll be practicing safety."
"Okay." The younger of the two giggled.
"...okay well um, bye." Awkward would be an understatement for how they two felt near each other after the proposal.
Tutoring Steven for school was even tenser until they incorporated Amina into "learning" with them. When in reality Amina mostly complained which lightened the mood.
Of course, Connie didn't blame Steven, she knew something was bothering him, leading him to ask for marriage at 16. But alas, she can't help anything if he doesn't talk to her.
Steven looked at her perplexed, unsure of how to say goodbye. He could hug her but that would be weird.
"Bye Connie." He said finally, with a smile. It was clearly fake to Connie but she didn't know if it was that apparent to others.
She returned a fake smile and left the room, sighing with relief as soon as she met the last step.
"Bye guys." She said to the group of gems and left.
