You'd been thinking for months about what you could get the woman, that deserved everything, for Christmas. Weeks of searching online and praying for a miracle idea to grace your head ended in completely nothing. You had a few ideas but they all sounded ridiculous when you wanted this christmas to be perfect. You and cate had been christmas shopping a few weeks ago, this had been routine the past couple of years; what with 4 kids she was always struggling with what to get them. That's when you saw it. The shop you had had your eyes on the past couple months. Why the idea had never crossed your mind you'd never know, but right then and there; you knew you wanted to spend the rest of your life with Sarah.
It had taken hours to decide on the perfect one. Cate had helped and promised to keep the whole thing a secret. You were going to propose to Sarah in a mere 24 hours and you were crapping your pants.
*time skip*
Sarah was wrapped around your body and you could feel her relaxed breaths on your neck, where her head was buried. You thought about attempting to wake her up, but you knew she hated early mornings and it also gave you time to make breakfast and think about your plan for your proposal. You loved christmas and ever since you were a little girl, you had never managed to stay in bed. Only now these christmas' weren't spent with family, they had outed you when you told them you were gay, but now with the love of your life. You could feel the excitement and joy in the air.
You slipped from Sarah's embrace and made your way downstairs, clothed in only sarahs oversized top and underwear- minus bra. The livingroom was basically a shrine to Christmas. A huge tree loaded with ornaments sat in the corner of the room with a ton of presents underneath. There were decorations all over the walls and mistletoe hanging over the door. Sarah had complained jokingly that you had gone overboard, but you knew secretly that she loved it all. She was more christmasy than she wanted to admit.
You made your way to the kitchen and put on a pot of coffee, placing bread in the toaster and grabbing eggs to scramble. Your heart was overflowing with Christmas joy, yet you couldn't stop the anxiety flowing in your veins at the thought of sarah saying no.
While you waited for the coffee to brew and eggs to cook, you began to build up the fire in the livingroom. It was a little after 7 in the morning, which meant that the christmas music channel would be on. Humming the tune to "all I want for christmas", you plated up breakfast for the two of you.
"All I want for christmas is-"
"You." Arms wrapped around your waist, and if you didnt know Sarah's embrace so well, you'd be scared. But you settled further into her arms as she squeezed your hips, and kissed your neck delicately.
"Merry christmas baby"
"Merry christmas love"
You and sarah ate in comfortable silence in the livingroom, the occasional giggle from sarah as she watched you light up as various songs played on the telly.
"I can see you eyeing up the presents under the tree babe..." sarah smirked at you from her side of the sofa.
"I want to give you one of yours first... because I don't want to get all hyped up if this present doesn't go the way I want it to... okay?" Sarah glanced at you confused and a little nervous, no where near as nervous as you were. But you attempted to calm her by offering a small smile and a squeeze of her hand.
"Its in your stocking... go ahead"
Sarah walked to the fireplace and stuck her hand in her named stocking, pulling out the little box wrapped in ribbon. If she put any thought into it, she could've easily guessed what it was. If she had, her face didnt convey that she knew what you had planned. That just made you even more anxious.
She held it in her hands, just holding it, stroking her fingers across the red material.
"Open it" you whispered, so quietly that you almost didn't hear yourself say it. Sarah pulled the ribbons off and glanced back towards you, it was as if she was going so slowly on purpose. Your hands were shaking, you just hoped you were doing the right thing.
The box opened and Sarah brought her hand up to her mouth. Did she not like the ring?
"We can change it if you don't like it..."
You stood and walked straight to her, standing awkwardly in front of her.
"I wanna marry you Sarah... I wanna marry you because you're the first person I wanna look at when I wake up in the morning, and the only one I wanna kiss goodnight. Because the first time that I saw these hands, I couldn't imagine not being able to hold them. But mainly, when you love someone as much as I love you, getting married is the only thing left to do. So, will you, um... marry me?"
"Are you joking?"
"Why are you laughing?"
