"Sarah! Come here quick!" You were stood in front of the bathroom mirror, with only a bra and pyjama shorts on. You heard Sarah's footsteps make their way up the stairs rather quickly, you probably should've worded what you said better. Ever since finding out you were pregnant, Sarah was always on edge, trying to keep you safe and protected as much as she could; she couldn't afford for either of you to get hurt especially when she could stop it.
"What!? What's wrong?" Sarah glanced at you up and down, checking for injuries or anything out of the usual. That's when her eyes fell upon your stomach, and her chest filled with more butterflies than she thought was possible, like a whole zoo was in her stomach just at the sight of you there and then.
"Can you see it? I'm starting to show Sar! I have a bump!"
Sarah could see how your eyes lit up, the joy in them, she was just as excited as you were. She joined you at the mirror and wrapped her arms around you from behind, her hands falling upon yours that rested on the small bump. You were almost 14 weeks gone, finally into the second trimester, you hoped that it would mean the morning sickness would back off a bit; it was driving you mad.
"You're so beautiful love" You both stood there for a while, just watching each other, Sarah's eyes falling constantly to your entwined hands and small bump. You had never felt so in love before, Sarah was truly the love of your life.
"I think, maybe, we should tell your family now Sar."
"Okay love, I'm ready if you are"

You were so nervous, you hadn't really thought about it before and it hadn't truly bothered you till you got to Sarah's mother's house. You knew you didn't really have a reason to be so nervous, Catharine had always loved you, you both met up a couple times a month for lunch and a chat. So really, you had no reason to be nervous about telling Sarah's family about the pregnancy. And yet, the unsure feeling in your stomach just wouldn't budge.
"Love, everything's going to be okay. Please calm down, stress isn't good for you." Sarah took your hand in hers and squeezed slightly. She knew her mere touch would calm you, if even just a little bit. You returned her smile and followed her out of the car and towards the house.
It was Catharine's birthday and you and Sarah had been invited to a small get together she was having. Sarah's sisters', Rachel and Liz, and her niece, Hannah, were going to be there; so you were telling them all in one go. Regardless of being nervous, you were excited to see them all, especially Hannah; the little 5 year old was so cute and she loved to tease Sarah by calling you her favourite aunt. You'd brought along a small present for Hannah (obviously, alongside Catharine's present), you had heard Sarah talking to Liz about a barbie doll that the little girl had been asking for- it had sold out everywhere, except the shop you had found it in the other day. You knew she'd love it, there had to be a reason you were her favourite after all.
"I love you" Sarah kissed your cheek quickly before someone answered the door, a last ditched attempt to calm you down. You only managed a smile as a response before you heard Catharine's voice in front of you both.
"How's my favourite daughter in law?!" Catharine pulled you into a hug first, earned a playful scoff from Sarah, you were pretty sure Catharine did this on purpose to mess with her daughter.
"I'm your only daughter-in law Cathy, but I'm good, how are you-"
"-Er hello! Your actual daughter is standing right here!" You giggled as Catharine released you to embrace Sarah, loving to see the pair together again; Sarah and Catharine were so close and you loved their relationship.
"Come on in girls, the others are in the living room" Sarah's hands fell to your waist as you walked towards the room full of people, she'd been extra touchy since you told her you were pregnant- but you weren't complaining. Everyone turned to look at you both as you entered the room, Rachel stood up to hug you both and you immediately felt a little more at ease.
"Let's go to the sofa love, my legs are killing me" you knew it weren't her legs that were killing, she just wanted you to sit down. You couldn't help but love this side of Sarah, sometimes it was a little overbearing, but you knew she meant well and you loved having her wrapped around your finger. It just meant that this baby was loved so much by Sarah already, and you were so happy about that.
"Auntie y/n!" Hannah ran into the room from outside, and straight into your arms, pulling herself into your lap. You returned her hug and squeezed her playfully.
"Hey Hannah, go careful on y/n, how about you come give me a hug?" You gave Sarah a small smirk and that look that told her she was being a little too obvious. It didn't take much for Rachel to question Sarah's weird moods and actions.
"Okay, what's going on? You're acting weird... y/n's not a doll"
"er...well, why don't you give Catharine her present Sar?" You smiled gently at Sarah and the rest of the women in the room, trying to hold back the nervousness cursing through your veins. Your hands shaking a little within your lap, until one of Sarah's took a hold of them. Her other hand reaching out towards her mother with a card in her grasp.
"You always taught me to open cards first, you might wanna sit down to open it mom..." Catharine glanced at you both a little confused, before doing what Sarah had said and sitting in-between her other two daughters.
You took Sarah's hands into your own, holding onto them pretty hard, the skin on skin contact grounding you in the moment. This was it. Catharine opened the card and the small picture placed inside fell onto her lap. That little picture was the most precious thing you had ever seen, it held your entire future, filled your heart with so much happiness.
"oh my god... is this real?" Catharine's voice wavered, and you could tell she was on the verge of crying- of joy you hoped. The small scan picture sat in her palm, until Liz took it for herself to make sure what she was seeing was actually real.
"I'm going to be an auntie!?" Liz ran up to you both and pulled you into the biggest hug you had ever received, Rachel joined you all on the sofa, you giggled watching Sarah's face fall as thoughts of protecting you swam around her head.
"okay okay, off you get, don't squash her-"
"I'm okay sweetheart, don't worry so much" you hand stroked her cheek and pulled her into a small kiss once the girls left your embrace. That's when you both heard Catharine's sobs from across the room, it scared you at first. That sound was never something you welcomed, and you were scared that she was mad or upset, until a smile grew on her face and she walked towards Sarah.
"My little girl, is having a baby? I'm going to be a grandmother again!?" Hannah jumped across to your knees again, pulling you in for a hug, moving herself out of the way for her grandmother to pull her auntie into a bone crushing hug.
God, you loved this family.
