Author-chan here. this first story is actually part of a MUCH larger underlying story that i've created in my head, so it might not make to much sense. This is really just a small segment of the whole thing.

You.

A half Japanese, half American 17 year old woman. Beautiful and charming. Not as book smart as you'd like, but very independent and caring. As a child, you had a best friend. He always cheered you up and made you smile.

Growing up in seaside Japan was hard for you, especially since you weren't a full Japanese and lived in an area of very strict and traditional elderlies. No matter what, he was always there to make you feel better whenever you were getting bullied because your eyes weren't "Japanese" enough.

Or, because your skin wasn't "fair" enough. Like hell, it wasn't white enough for you? There are a hell of a bunch of pure Japanese people who were plenty darker than me!

No matter the reasons, he was always there. Whenever you least expected it, whenever you wanted him there the most, whenever he could. Always. Both of your families were very close to each other and treated everyone like family.

When you got older and were able to experience the feeling of love, your mom would always pester you, saying things like " Have you fallen for him yet??!" and " When do I get my cutie grandbabies??!!".

Yeah, it was annoying, but you never minded. I mean, that's a mom's job, isn't it? To rant to their daughter about having children so that their lineage can continue. Well, all your happy memories stopped when you were about 14.

His grandmother was picking you two up from school on a December afternoon, your fuzzy coats and warm bodies huddled up together as Grandmother muttered curse words under her breath about the traffic.

It was only natural that traffic was bad at this time of day. Everyone was getting out of school now. I'm not really sure why either of your moms let his grandmother drive, simply for the fact that she had a bad case of road rage and HORRIBLE peripheral vision.

She kept honking her loud car horn at the already angry drivers ahead and they, of course, honked back. She was pretty fed up by now and just turned out of our lane and into the nearest one to our left.

" Kids, we're taking a detour." That was all she said before we started going the complete opposite way from everyone else. Grandmother, as old as she is, was always one to take risks, so this was pretty normal but still exciting.

As you all kept going, you were wondering why grandmother was passing the " Warning; Slippery Ice up ahead!" signs and continuing like they weren't there. We kept passing them by, more and more as they came.

I turned my head, a worried look plastered on my rosy cheeks from the cold, and looked into my friend's brown, innocent eyes.

" It's okay, she knows where she's going. Why else would we go this way?" He reassured me. See, this is what I mean. He's always the one to keep you feeling safe in times of danger or even if it's just a simple test you're nervous about.

He has such a pure heart, it's hard to believe you even became friends. You never really tried to meet him, your parents forced you two. And as they say: Introverts don't make friends, they get adopted by an extrovert.

In this case, it was definitely you who was adopted. Though, You're very grateful for all that you were forced, because you wouldn't have met him if you'd been given a choice. Then it hit you. The reason why she kept driving like they weren't there wasn't because she was ignoring them. It was because she couldn't see them.
