Here's one for you DM's that want a good old fashion audit of players' activities
The players wake up from whatever campsite/hub they were sleeping at that night, to find a unflinching government agent just standing there, quietly. After everyone wakes up (& or when one of the players confront them) they will tell them about why they are here. "Hello I'm (insert name here) & I've been sent by the government to monitor slash dig up your activities. But don't worry as long as you haven't done anything illegal we should all be just fine".
If the players have done nothing legally questionable then the audit comes up as good. But if they have done legally questionable stuff, roll 1d20 for each legally questionable activity & that if you succeed the investigator finds something (please note what a success for a roll is decided by the dm, but I recommend for how sloppily cleaned up/not cleaned up the legally questionable activity is, the easier the roll.)
If the players get found out, at random after a nights rest, police/guards may raid there camp/hub site.
